  • Setting up Our Perl Environment27:23

We use mobaxterm, a free for private use environment for Windows. It gives us the Cygwin provided linux/unix "userland" that we expect on a real Linux/Unix environment. For the purposes of these lessons, it services as  really nice basis for live coding demos; mainly because the environment comes mostly set up out of the box and it provides a nice restricted environment that won't let us get to far ahead of ourselves. Future plans including leading in the Linux or BSD environments, which are much more powerful, especially when it comes to Perl.

Requirements

  • A singular desire to learn more, specifically about Perl

Description

Perl is a modern miracle, but can be unforgiving to most. I love Perl. I'm a Perl expert. I am kind, fair, and patient. I have over 20 years of Perl programming and training experience. I love Perl and helping people to solve their problems. However, I Perl and Her community is one that has humbled me in the most beneficial ways. The goal of any serious Perl programmer is Mastery - but a mastery that compels them to remain feeling as a child still learning, yet as a caring paternal guide for those  he sees on the same journey. This is my attempt to lead others into this contemplative are of computer programming.

This free course is a full taste of what to expect from the upcoming PAID Perl IRL course, and includes a sneak peak into the list of current lessons. You receive in this free course nearly two hours of coding "IRL" using Perl. It also includes an introduction to the programming environment  I am using, how to install Perl modules, and provides examples of efficient workflows that are used by professional Perl programmers all over the world. But even though it is a sample course, you will still learn a lot about Perl and how to work with it efficiently. After this course, you will have a good taste of what the paid course provides; but in the paid course you will get exposure to so much more. Hope after this course you will buy the paid course and start on your path to becoming a professional Perl programmer, if that is your goal. In all cases, this will be good for you professionally and maybe personally.

Who this course is for:

  • Perl programmers of all shapes and sizes
