This is designed as a broad overview course, intended to give you a basic understanding of the key issues that involve the legal interaction within the healthcare system. At the end of this course, you will understand how the various administrative and regulatory bodies function to regulate health care in Nigeria. You will gain a basic understanding of the core structures and institutional dynamics that generate the health law provisions in Nigeria, and that help shape and sometimes complicate the provision of medical care in Nigeria. The introductory section begins with an overview of health law. The second section takes us through the different levels of the Nigerian government. This is the background to the Nigerian legal system. The third section examines the structure of the Nigerian Health Care System. The fourth section explores the multi-sectoral agencies across several ministries in Nigeria that also have an impact on the public health of Nigerians. The fifth section appraises the regulation of health in Nigeria. The final section looks into the challenges hindering the universal access to health in Nigeria. I designed this course for anyone who desires a basic understanding of how the Nigerian health system functions and requires in a single component an introductory overview of some of the regulatory bodies, laws, statutes and policies currently in operation.
