The Introduction - Where it all begins... an introduction to Dutiable goods in Singapore and a Did You Know to get you started on getting interest in how we set up the business and the process of importing, storing and distributing alcohol in Singapore.
Setting up and Registering the company - understanding better about why some companies indicate their SSIC code as such. Hopefully, the background information explanation is ok and not too dry. :)
Understand and know what conditions to fulfil in order to apply for the various licenses / permits to operate the business - This portion is unfortunately dry but essential to get your business up and running.
NOTE: Regulatory organizations here are Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Singapore Food Agency (SFA).
Importation - where the journey to retail is just starting... Understand better the documents given out by suppliers and how they can help you avoid being penalized by the Singapore Customs when bringing the alcohol into Singapore. Some of the criterion is very important to take note.
Storage - an important but often overlooked portion of the Supply Chain. The right kind of storage can help ensure that the condition of the alcohol is still optimal when releasing to your customer. Lets hope that this video helps you choose the best condition (within your budget of course) for your alcohol.
Distribution - almost like the opposite of Importation except this time, you're going to be dealing with your customers. So the documents are now from your end. Knowing the documents to prepare will help you also get the admin portion of documents format settled up front.
Whew... the lengthiest video yet. This video dedicates more time into understanding the permits for the Licensed Warehouse (LW) for Importation and Distribution. However, there is also a write up on General Warehouse (GW) if you are using one. Comparing the permits and understanding why people choose the LW Vs a GW.
Second section on counting of Duties for the alcohol is necessary to know the true costs of distributing alcohol into SG. Some portions are subjected to change (especially on GST since it is scheduled for an increase in 2023). The current excise duty rates for alcohol may also be subjected to change (current rate has not been changed for the past 10yrs).
The last video for the Introduction series. Thank you all for watching my videos. By all means, I hope that they had guided you well to setting up the business. IF I have enough feedback or enquiries, my next project can be on something that is also related to LW operations or be a deep dive into an alcohol related topic. :)
Like the title, I hope this course guides you well if you have any questions how to get started on alcohol importation. To many, this field is often under-explored. With this exposure, hopefully, the right kind of questions can now be asked.
This course will go into the portion that coincides with logistics, local clearance and address issues like the importance of the right documentation for doing clearance, understanding the standards required for documentation and even the right kind of permits for your warehousing needs.
To begin, we would go into the admin portion - how to set up the business, registering the business, choosing the right SSIC code, name, how to do a check for similar sounding names, etc. The links are all provided for the user to try out. There are some costs involved of course if you want to go and register the company name. Explanations have been provided as well. Then the application of the permits and licenses to run the business with the background provided. This portion will take some time to slowly understand as well since the user would have to deal with regulatory bodies.
The ops portion will be relevant to the business, dealing with the documentation for importing and exporting and also choosing the right kind of storage for your alcohol. We will end with understanding better the permits used and how to calculate duties for the alcohol.
ENJOY!
