Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of light waves

Description

All of us enjoy to see rainbow in the sky, during rainy days on the roads, on compact disc, in soap bubble. Wave optics gives deeper appreciation of behavior of light in all these visible world phenomena. This course on wave optics will explain all this enjoyable phenomena and good grip on basic principles / problem solving through quizzes and assignments.

  • Interference through thin film of oil or soap film gives beautiful colors due to reflection of sunlight from front and back surfaces of thin film. Antireflection coating on the lens of optical instruments makes use of thin film interference.

  • Diffraction studies the behavior of light waves after it is passed through a single aperture and also from arrays of apertures that form a definite pattern of intensity of light and it is size and spacing dependent of the aperture. Rainbow seen reflected from compact disc is example of it.

  • Polarization helps us to understand how to produce polarized light resulting in reduction of intensity of light and hence use of it in sunglasses, 3 d goggles, liquid crystal display etc.

  • This course is very beneficial to the B.Tech. / BE , B.Sc. students and also for preparation of Engineering and Medical Entrance Examination aspirants.

  • This course is free for all students.

Who this course is for:

  • First year engineering student and students preparing for Engineering/Medical Entrance Examination
  • This course will help students to gain working knowledge of optics through interesting natural phenomena and application.
