    WELCOME!

Thank you for your energy, your trust, your focus and your time. I’m so honored to speak to you and I am so appreciative of the privilege that is being your teacher on this instrument that I owe so much to.

I value so very much the fact that you have invested in yourself, in your growth, your learning and your expansion as a musician and percussionist. I want you to know that I don’t take this for granted and I congratulate you.

During our journey together we will cover the objective of this course, who it is for and what you can expect as far as what you will learn, how and why. I will talk to you about the respect this small yet powerful instrument deserves and what its role or function usually is.

We will then cover basic technique, and how to apply that to concepts such as dynamics, articulation and feel.

Then we will get to the core component in which you’ll learn how to play quarter notes, eighth notes both straight and swung, sixteenth notes straight and swung, accented eighth notes & sixteenth notes through more than 60 different patterns to add to your musical arsenal.

So, please grab your shaker or if you have several then keep them handy so you can try these patterns with different ones. You can be on your feet or you can play sitting down, whichever you choose. Just make sure you keep your back straight and have as good of a posture as you can.

    Are you ready? Let’s go!

Description

OBJECTIVE

The purpose of this course is for you to fall in love with the shaker, an instrument that has given so much to me musically and professionally. As we dive into the shaker my goal is to give you a few tools that will help you gain confidence on stage, in the studio or while jamming with some friends.

WHO IS THIS FOR?

This course will benefit a total beginner to percussion as well as those who are more seasoned musicians.  Perhaps you are a drummer wanting to expand your vocabulary, a producer that wants to track their own shakers instead of using generic samples, a singer that needs to add dimension to their acoustic shows during a solo, or a background singer that is tasked with unexpected percussive responsibilities… this is for all of you!

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Throughout this course we will go over different dynamics, articulations, feels & note rates, in addition to different accents and variations. I hope to expand your creativity by demonstrating over 60 different patterns that are easily applied to many musical situations. These patterns will be shown on screen to help you understand the material without feeling the pressure of having to memorize them, and they've been split into 4 distinct sets. After each set you will have the ability to hear them being played along to music. That way you can truly appreciate how each and every pattern has its own personality, as they interact with various instruments and vibes. I've also included a PDF of every pattern so that you can play along and apply them to many of your favorite songs. So join me and let's get started with the shaker, your new money maker!
