Course content

7 sections153 lectures8h 5m total length
  • Glossary2:32

Master the glossary essentials—mesh, polygons, quads, triangles, textures, materials, and retopology—while noting file formats like obj and fbx.

  • Installation2:21

Learn where to download 3D code and its free print version, texture, and full suite, then install on Windows, Mac, or Linux after logging in and running the installer.

  • Opening 3D Coat1:31

Navigate the 3D Coat interface from login and license loading to voxel sculpting, retopo, painting, and renders, exploring the main window, scene options, spheres, and hotkeys.

  • Camera Controls2:33

Master camera controls in 3D Coat to rotate with left click drag, pan with middle mouse, and zoom with alt right click, while using numpad 5 to snap views.

  • UI Customization Hotkeys And Hints2:20

Learn to customize 3D Coat's interface with hotkeys and hints, assign and remove hotkeys, organize panels like shaders and layer tree, and store or restore the workspace for efficient workflows.

  • Sculpt Tree Voxel Layers1:45

Explore how the sculpture panel uses layers to group voxel objects, examine voxel density settings, and learn how higher density adds detail but slows performance.

  • Layer Dublication Hierarchy2:45

Explore layer duplication, grouping, and hierarchical organization in 3D Coat, including moving, isolating, ghosting, and merging layers, plus polycount display.

  • Object Navigation2:23

Navigate 3d space by moving objects with two styles: a blended mode using g to move the whole selection along axes, and a transform gizmo for move, rotate, and scale.

  • Side Toolbar0:36

Explore the side toolbar in 3D Coat and customize the left tool palette with icons and text. Use the spacebar to preview all tools at a glance for faster workflow.

  • Smooth Shade Preview0:25

Stay in smooth shade in the view settings, turn off the wireframe, and return to smooth shade if the preview switches to flat shade or specular color.

  • Real Time Shading1:26

Explore real-time shading in the viewport by switching shaders and preview modes, apply toon and clay shaders, enable cast shadows, and note real-time textures slow performance at high triangle counts.

  • Undo And Redo Actions0:35

Master undo and redo actions in 3D Coat by using Ctrl Z and Ctrl Y, while customizing Ctrl Shift Z for redo and RAM limits undos to 1 to 3.

  • Reference Planes to Bring Concept Art0:58

Set up reference images on x, y, and z axes; show planes and snap with alt shift, use the gizmo to move, scale, and rotate for sculpting from concept art.

Requirements

  • No prior experience with 3D Coat is required

Description

The course is designed to guide you through the fundamental features of this 3D sculpting software.

I am covering key topics like sculpting, manual and auto-retopology, UV mapping, baking texturing, and rendering.

The tutorial also bridges the workflow between 3D Coat and Blender, showing how to set up scenes and create camera animations for professional-quality presentations.

The course is made of small-length videos 1-3 minutes per tool. It makes it convenient to navigate and study.

Long processes are recorded in timelapses with narration.

The 3D Coat sculpt and Blender scene are included in the Project Files.

CHAPTERS:

01 - Interface Basics

Learn to navigate the 3D Coat interface, customize the workspace, and use essential tools and shortcuts to work efficiently.

02 - Sculpting

Explore voxel and surface sculpting techniques, working with brushes, stencils, and symmetry to create detailed models.

03 - Manual Retopology

Master manual retopology by creating clean edge loops and topology for an optimized model.

04 - Creating UVs

Discover how to mark seams, unwrap models, and optimize UV layouts for clean and distortion-free texturing.

05 - Baking and Texturing

Learn to bake textures and apply PBR materials using smart materials and layers for realistic, detailed surfaces.

06 - Blender Scene Set Up

Set up a scene in Blender, import models from 3D Coat, apply materials, and adjust lighting and camera for final rendering.

07 - Auto-Retopology and Texturing

Automatically generate clean topology with 3D Coat’s auto-retopology tools, apply textures, and create smooth camera animations in Blender for dynamic presentations.

If you are interested in my background I have a whole channel dedicated to 3D Coat for over 7 years now.
