Give life to your interior design concept- draw plans, and professional sketches.
Prepare and present sketches and plans
Pencil sketching
Hand drawn concept is an important part of the interior design process. It starts after the research, finding the main idea and basic space planning. It requires no technology, just good quality paper, and pencils, so is very flexible and can be created instantly.
The designer does however need to feel confident in their pencil skills and be able to correctly understand perspective and scale so that schemes can be produced accurately.
You can sketch every space of the house. It’s a good idea to start with wider angles showing the entire space. Then draw the main proportion and unveil the story of the room. After this, it’s time for sketching details: furniture layout, appliances, the decorations, etc
Adding shading where the lines meet will give depth and perspective to the drawing and is known as ‘weighting’ a picture.
Specify where the light source will be for every image.
Certainly, the sketches you will present to the customer are not the first you've done, but the final product after many hours of work.
Adding color to the sketches will give customers an idea of the colors, feel, atmosphere.
You can also draw detailed plans on graph paper showing how you think about arranging the room, what changes you will make, also if you think about structural changes. Such a plan may contain sizes, show the location of doors, windows, and other structural elements, but may also contain sketches of the furniture to be used, helping the customer to better imagine how space will be.
A design schematic is a complete room design similar to a mood board, but it includes a floor plan with furniture and decor laid out to scale. With a design schematic, you can show your clients the exact location and dimensions of every piece in their home in addition to architectural details and appliances.
Computer-aided design
Computer-aided design (CAD) is a technology for design and technical documentation, which replaces manual drafting with an automated process.
This type of software does not replace a designer's creativity and inventiveness but adds perspective to design and professionalism.
Most of them can list 3D drawings from different directions and perspectives, which will be a huge addition to your presentation.
Fortunately, where at one point a very high level of technical and computing knowledge would have been expected to manipulate these programs, recent developments and advances in technology have made these packages much easier to use making their use far more accessible.
There are many types of design software, but the most used by professionals are:
Autodesk AutoCAD
This computer-aided design software that many architects, engineers, and construction professionals rely on to create precise 2D and 3D drawings. It allows the users to draft and edit 2D geometry and 3D models with solids, surfaces and mesh objects, annotate drawings with text, dimensions, leaders, and tables, add furniture, textures, and colors. AutoCAD is probably more relevant for those involved in the technical aspect of design as it has strong functionality in this area.
While older versions of the software can be obtained at a reasonable price, the newer versions can be costly. It will also be necessary to have good quality hardware and a computer with a lot of spare memory to be able to operate AutoCAD.
SweetHome3D
This is is a free interior design application that helps you draw the plan of your house, arrange furniture on it and visit the results in 3D. SweetHome is not a highly technical product so is not the best choice to keep an accurate account of precise quantities of nuts and bolts or exact measurements, but in terms of creating engaging and realistic images of proposed interiors, it is hard to beat.
You can draw a floor plan then add in walls and floors, adjusting height, width, and elevation, add windows, doors, and other architectural features. The interface allows you to drag and drop in furniture and other fittings and you can choose colors and textures too.
While designing the home in 2D, simultaneously view it in 3D from an aerial point of view, or navigate into it from a virtual visitor point of view.
Once the design is complete you can even make virtual reality films of your scheme so that the user can feel how space will feel once the design and build are completed. Sweet Home will also allow you to import items from catalogs for example of furniture.
Autodesk Revit
Another Autodesk product, Autodesk Revit unlike the above-mentioned is exclusively for architects and interior designers. Highly technical in nature, Autodesk Revit is a building design and construction software that enables professionals to digitally construct buildings and models with a consistent and coordinated model-based approach.
SketchUp
SketchUp was developed with the professional designer in mind. The idea behind the concept was to create a software platform that was both easy to learn and fun to use. The idea was to empower the designer to create amazing schemes on an elegant platform with the same ease of use and freedom that the traditional pencil and paper method also provides.
The software has many plans and pricing for personal, professional, or student use. The capabilities of SketchUp are pretty much limitless.
Once installed, you can access its Warehouse which contains an amazing stock of free 3D models. You can add adjust scale, weight, dimensions, graphics and line weights. You can even create models from your own photos or illustrations. This is a wonderful way to add real personality to your design and clients will love the sense of uniqueness which this will bring. Gives the user a really powerful understanding of how the scheme would feel.
Infurnia
With Infurnia, designers can create detailed multi-story floor plans in both 2d and 3d. The design is done mainly in 3D with customization options available for all kinds of furniture.
With its catalog management features, Infurnia also provides designers with an easy-to-use and systematic way of uploading their own furniture models, hardware models, finishes, etc. Infurnia provides different kinds of rendering like 3D image renders, panoramic renders, and VR renders.
