Welcome to the short course, First Steps in Instructional Design. In this course, you will learn the fundamental theories of instructional design and how to initiate your journey as an instructional designer. Our focus is on educating adults, so you will also learn some basics of andragogy.


With over 10 years of experience in the education sector, I have taught more than 8,000 students in three different languages. Now, I aim to extend my reach and bring more clarity to students who are new to instructional design.


Although this course is aimed at andragogy, you can also apply it to other age groups.


During this 1-hour course, you will gain an understanding of:

  • What education and instruction means and why it is important

  • The basics of instructional design for beginners

  • How to take the first steps in the instructional design field.


My name is Ivan Chagas, I have been a teacher here at Udemy for 3 years and 6,000 students have enrrolled in my courses in Portuguese, English and Spanish. I have been working with educational content for 10 years, organizing events, I was an educational manager at the biggest innovation school in Curitiba and today I live full-time as an instructional designer and content creator.
