INSTANT HARMONICA – play two Star Wars themes right now!
Respect and thanks to John Williams for writing this amazing song.
If you have a tune that you would like me to teach please message me.
Take this course and play the tune instantly. No musical experience needed.
You will pick it up straight away without needing any music skills. This is easy to play and really fun to learn. You will be proud of your achievements and happy with the results.
'INSTANT HARMONICA' is a new series of courses where you learn one tune per course. You will find it is taught in a friendly and encouraging manner and most importantly is it taught v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y.
Ben Hewlett is a very experienced music teacher who is able to be very patient and methodical. Each lecture will introduce you to the next group of notes – usually just 4 new notes and that's it.
This method is very easy for you to pick up the tunes as they are repeated over and over again until you have got it. You can even re-run the video if you find it useful.
Take one course and learn your favourite tune. The try another. Remember you can always get your money back if you wish but otherwise you have lifetime access to the course.
Imagine how amazing it will feel when you whip out your harmonica and play this tune – your friends and family will carry you shoulder high in triumph. Hopefully they don't carry you out of town and dump you in the river, but hey, swimming's good as well.
The health benefits of playing the harmonica are well documented – google it. Your lungs get exercised, your lung capacity increases, aerobic movement is good for you, playing music makes you smarter they say.
You will have fun on your own and with your friends, and more oxygen to the brain will make you think you are having a good time so it's all good.
Respect and thanks to all the artists for writing and performing these amazing song that you want to learn.

- This course is for complete beginners; you don't need any musical experience, I'll walk you through the whole thing very slowly step by step. If you are an advanced player you will cover the whole thing very fast and you may find it is too slow for you
This course is all about learning to play Star Wars.
There are three themes to learn.
The Main theme, a rhythm part, and the Imperial March.
First we will sing the tunes and then work them out on the harmonica.
I will also write it on the whiteboard in real time and give you a screen shot to go with every lecture in case the screen you are viewing on isn't very big.
Any course in my INSTANT HARMONICA series needs only two things:
a harmonica (key of C, 10 holes, diatonic)
and the ability to play single notes - but I'll show you how to do that now in this lecture
Make your mouth into the shape you might use if you whistle - it's known as the pucker, pursed lip or kiss shape. Allow your lower lip to drop and push the harmonica in a little; the further it goes in the better it will sound! Relax your lips to let the harmonica in and gradually try to get the shape that gives you a single note.
Some people use a pencil or straw to model the shape you need so try that as well.
I have a bigger course with five lectures on this subject if you want to go deeper - it's called 'INSTANT HARMONICA - how to get single notes in 5 easy steps' so dive in and take that one if you like
The more complicated way is called 'tongue blocking' but I will not go into it here except to say you use your tongue to block the holes to the left (or sometimes the right) side of the hole you want to play. Here's another of my courses that explores the use of the tongue in harmonica playing - 'Killer Harmonica sounds using the tongue and bending notes'
PLEASE BE SURE TO OPEN THE PICS IN THE DOWNLOAD TAB FOR EVERY LECTURE - THEY ARE SCREENSHOTS OF THE WHITEBOARD AND WILL MAKE EVERYTHING MUCH CLEARER FOR YOU IF YOU ARE USING A SMALL SCREEN TO VIEW THE VIDEOS
This lecture is about playing the first two notes of the tune - easy start!
Hole 4 BLOW then hole 6 BLOW
Practice back and forth 4 then 6 then 4 then 6 to try to get the transition between the two notes nice and smooth.
This lecture deals with the main notes of the theme - the bones of the tune
4 BLOW, 6 BLOW
7 BLOW, 6 BLOW
7 BLOW, 6 BLOW
Round and round please until it's smooth
This the preparation for the whole tune so please get it as comfortable as you can
This lecture adds the final not eo the tune before we do the triplets
Hole 4 DRAW is the last note
Try using some vibraton any long notes you like
I demonstrate the most common types of vibrato on the video
Play the whole thing from the top please
Please pay attention to the rhythm but if that is too fast just slow it down
This lecture is about adding the triplets
Note the triplet feel and don't rush the triplets - it's a very common mistake
Please see the reference photo in the download tab to be super clear
5 DRAW, 5 BLOW, 4 DRAW
Remind yourself to play single notes very clearly by making the aperture in your lips as narrow as you need
This lecture shows you how to play the triplets in context - take it easy!
When you are happy with that take a look at the final triplet which is slightly different - by just one hole
5 DRAW, 5 BLOW, 5 DRAW - so you stay on hole 5
So now you have the whole theme and I would like you to play it at whatever speed you like but in rhythm
This lecture shows you how to play the ryhthm part
It's a great little rhythmic motif I have heard.
This technique is called 'Chugging'
I have a whole Udemy course devoted to this called 'Get Chugging - it don't mean a thing it it ain't got that swing'
Chugging is where you whisper silly words into the harmonica - in this case 'choo chuckety choo'
Yes you actually whisper the words into the harmonica and out comes an articulated rhythm which sounds very cool I think
You can use this to introduce the main theme - play it a couple of times and then put the theme in.
This lecture shows you how to play Darth Vader's theme, also known as "The Imperial March"not as I say in the video The Force Theme.
It's quite easy to play and centres around hole 2
Plus it's all breathing out
Please see the screenshot in the download tab
The only tricky bit is 132 BLOW so zoom in and get it sorted
You can construct your own arrangement from these three parts
Check out that 3 BLOW and 2 DRAW and the same note and are interchangeable
You can also play in octaves by using holes 2 and 5 and blocking out holes 3 and 4
Tongue-blocking is the name of this technique and you can find more in depth tuition in some of my other courses
This lecture explains what all the notes are.
If you aldeady know this stuff you can skim or skip itLike I said earlier, I have a bigger course with five lectures on this subject if you want to go deeper - it's called 'INSTANT HARMONICA - how to get single notes in 5 easy steps' so dive in and take that one if you like
