PLEASE NOTE - IF YOU WANT HELP WITH PLAYING SINGLE NOTES CLEANLY GO STRAIGHT TO LECTURE 10 AND COME BACK TO THIS LATER. It's a stand-alone course and is also included in my massive course 'Learn Harmonica, amaze your friends..'
But if you can already play single notes keep going here.
Firstly we will sing through the tune - it's the best way to learn music I reckon.
I think the word is 'croft' rather than 'wall' - it's hard to be certain on the recording I'm listening to from Mr McColl.
Anyway here is the first phrase to learn.
Please get this down before moving on.
This is the next phrase to learn - and once again I was annoyed with the inconsistency or the lyrics both written and sung by all the people who cover this song and the author; I now think Ewan McColl sings 'by the gasworks croft'. My chart says 'cry' and most people sing 'wall'.
It's up to you.
Final phrase of the first half.
In the next lecture we'll have a run-through of everything we've learnt up till now.
This is a full run though with the band at two different speeds - just the first half of the song.
Here you will find the backing tracks at three speeds - 60 beats per minute, 75 bpm and 100.
So now we start the second half - it should be getting easier now!
Here comes the chorus -
Dirty old Town, Dirty Old Town.
Let's play through the whole thing now using 'IrealPro' as the band. It's not a bad program and will cost very little - I even remembered (wrongly) getting it free.
We will play it at 85 and 100 bpm.
In this lecture I explain how to play the tune an octave lower using bending and tongue blocking.
After that - in the next section - we go into a second stage of the course - how to play single notes.
This is the promotional movie to tell you what the course is about.
This lecture is the introduction to the course - or I could say the NEXT part of the Dirty Old Town course.
The first thing is - do you actually need this course?
If you can already play single notes then NO you don't but if you would like to get some help on the subject you are in the right place
It tells you what you will learn and how you will do it
This lecture starts very slowly giving you an overview of all the 20 notes.
Next I show you the main 8 notes we will learn in this course.
Now I'm showing you how to play hole 1 as a single note.
There are different ways to get single notes but I'm showing you the easiest.
