I used to be a lecturer, now I'm a copywriter. Then and now, I have been using the exact same formula to produce writing that cuts through and communicates. And I discovered it back when I was writing essays as an undergraduate.
Beforehand, writing essays was stressful and getting them back was worse. I had no idea what mark I was going to get, but it was never what I thought my ideas deserved. Then I did a ton of boring research and stumbled upon an essay-writing system that literally added 20% to my marks overnight.
Suddenly, I was spending less time on my essays and more time having fun. Better still, I was getting first-class marks that I had previously only dreamed about. I graduated top of my Warwick Uni class with a first-class degree with distinction.
Nerd status confirmed.
Three years later, I used the exact same system for my PhD thesis. I submitted it early and passed with no corrections. When I defended my thesis at the Viva Voce exam, my examiners were pretty honest: they thought my research was fine but it was really my writing and methodology that they liked.
Boom: another win for the Missing Manual writing system.
If you hadn't guessed, I'm still using the same system today as a professional copywriter writing for big companies. If you think it might help you, just click the button and it's all yours.
