As we will see in Section 2, negative emotions have a damaging effect on our smart thinking, and therefore our ability to lead well. These questions will help you engage as a leader with the reality of the negative effect of crises on your own thinking, your teams and your organisation or project, important to what follows in the rest of the course.
Negative Emotions can have a significant and damaging effect on our leadership abilities. In this lecture, we will look at what happens when anxiety hits, and what effect that has on our ability to plan, solve problems, act with self-control, be strategically minded, and in control of damaging short-sighted behaviour.
In this lecture, I will introduce you to the model we will use for this section on self-leadership. Then we will step onto the first step of the model, facing the crisis head on, where we will look at why we must be intentional when reengaging smart thinking.
In this lecture, we will look at the first steps to deescalating your negative emotions and reengaging your smart thinking by the use of emotion and thought labelling.
In this lecture, we will continue the great work begun by emotion and thought labelling. We will continue the process of deescalation of negative emotions and the reengagement of smart thinking, by self-regulation and motivation, using cognitive reappraisal.
