This course focuses on my doctoral capstone experience as a third-year occupational therapy student. I completed my capstone at Special Olympics Iowa which is located in Grimes, Iowa. Participants in this course will gain an overview of Special Olympics Iowa and the various programs it offers. The content will explore how occupational therapy can be integrated into Special Olympics programming. Additionally, the course will highlight strategies to promote and create an adaptive gymnastics program in the state of Iowa.
I will share details from my capstone experience and outline key learning objectives with video lectures. Participants will also have access to downloadable resources to support deeper understanding and reflection on the material presented. Most downloadable resources were created myself to assist Special Olympics Iowa throughout their spring competition season. References for my needs assessment and presentation are included at the end. A brief knowledge check is included at the end to reinforce key concepts.
