Learn Item #8 outlines the individual Nature of Setting up an ERP System
Depending on the company’s objectives which have lead to the decision to implement an ERP system, the relevant scope of the software is defined. It can be defined more narrow or broad – what is best to fulfill the company’s objectives. Every company has got its own processes and structure and thus, setting up an ERP system is a company-individual task.
Employees to be integrated in the ERP project can be derived from standard roles of a project team which were outlined in the section Project Management.
Learn Item #9 provides an Overview of all the Roles the Project Team consists of.
In the kick-off meeting, all team members are put into the picture with regard to the project task and its goals. They are as well “sworn in” to the project.
Here you will find the individual steps of an ERP system selection as a guide for you.
Due to the high level of complexity in ERP projects, many companies choose to seek support from external consultants. At this point, I recommend this to almost all my clients.
The reason: the selection procedure of an ERP system is very complex - just like the contract negotiation. Although consulting also costs money, having experts on your side to negotiate prices and terms in the contract is cheaper overall than being on your own and making mistakes or overlooking provisions in the contract.
Learn Item #11 explains relevant Elements of Supplier Selection & Contract Design of an ERP Project.
Learn Item #12 shows which (external) Costs need to be planned when Implementing an ERP System.
However, when planning the project’s resources, keep in mind that internal costs such as employees’ working hours or their travel expenses may occur to a greater extent.
This course provides the relevant basic knowledge to prepare an ERP system introduction in the company successfully and step by step. You will learn all the relevant basics you need to know to create a project plan for your ERP project.
