This is not a lecture but an introductory session from the facilitator. The session also provides a course overview of the whole course. Here is an opportunity for you to access an outline of the upcoming topics and their sequential inter-relationships. You also get to know the facilitator/instructor.
The expected learning outcomes are based on the learning materials for each lecture. Your input towards achieving them is very important. Please read them and internalize them by reviewing your work and life practices. You are encouraged to study additional materials and actualize the outcomes by reflecting on how you perform work and engage with activities in your daily life.
In this lesson, we will learn more details on the concepts of ergonomics, work, occupations, and health. The occupational therapist is an expert in occupational science and is very interested in helping you prevent work-related injuries and illnesses. This lesson will help us identify the risks that may lead to injuries and illnesses so that we establish preventive measures. We will also learn when to consult an occupational therapist and/or any relevant expert in the ergonomics team.
In this lesson, we will learn the general principles of health-giving practices. Note that these health principles are different from ergonomic principles. Even without ergonomics, we need to keep healthy at our workplaces.
We just learned about the principles of good work practices in the last lesson. In this lesson, we will go further to combine good health practices and ergonomic principles. With practice, we should be able to apply ergonomic principles to gain health in our workspaces, homes, fieldwork, and any other associated environments. Health-giving practices are established through knowledge and good habits.
This is the last lesson of this course. It provides a summary and a wrap-up. I hope that you have enjoyed the course, and tried out some of the knowledge you have gained into practice. Practicing health-giving habits throughout our lifespan should be a positive investment as it keeps down health costs, and keeps the body healthy and active, regardless of age. Thank you for coming this far.
Welcome to this course on health and well-being in the workplace. This course will help you develop health-giving habits in the workplace. Through the training in this course, you will maximize your engagement with work and the environment. It does not matter what work you are currently engaged in; whether in the office, as a homemaker, or in the field. Whichever work you engage in, you need an awareness of how your body works in performing life occupations and work. Such awareness will help you to develop correct practices, habits, good health, well-being, and longevity.
Together, in this course, we will develop skills for correct engagement with work. This will result in long-term health and well-being. We will learn that the back is the core structure for postures and well-being. It is essential to connect our back and body structure with our daily work and promote harmonious engagement between the body, occupation, work, and environment to maintain health and contribute to overall well-being. We will also learn a little about occupational therapy and how to seek its services when needed.
In addition, we will develop more skills for healthy practices in our workspaces. We will also apply health principles in the workplace. The goal of this course is to enable us to reflect on how we engage with our daily activities, work, and the general environment. Hopefully, this course will assist us in developing health-giving skills and habits. Welcome!
