What you'll learn

  • The participants will have a complete understanding of pump performance test requirements according to API standard 610 – 12th edition
  • Will be able to design a suitable performance test protocol according to specific application requirements
  • Will be able to supervise the factory performance test,
  • Will be able to approve or otherwise the performance test results,
  • Will be able to adjudicate the exceptions if these arise.

Course content

1 section10 lectures1h 19m total length
  • Introduction to course on "Hydraulic Performance Acceptance Testing - API 610"3:22

This is an overall introduction to the course. It covers the course content, objective and target audience.

  • Performance test standard ANSI/HI 14.6 – ISO 9906.12:13

The tolerance table applicable to the pump performance testing results are explained in this lecture.

  • Additional pump performance testing requirements6:49

In  this section we will learn about the additional performance testing requirements as stipulated by API 610 over and above the requirements included in ANSI/HI 14.6 and ISO 9906.

  • Pump testing requirements - Vibration tolerances8:20

This lecture is a recap of the requirements for vibration measurement and acceptance criteria as laid down in the API standard 610.

  • Pump testing requirements - Lubrication systems4:16

In this lecture the bearing sump temperature, the bearing housing temperature and the bearing oil temperature upper limits are explained for different types of lubrication systems. These limits shall not be crossed, if the pump has to pass the performance test.

  • Default testing procedure7:00
  • Types of test beds4:34

In this lecture the different types of test beds are discussed.

  • NPSH required testing16:05

In this lecture we discuss the special requirements for NPSH required testing which are over and above the procedure given in ISO 9906 and HI standard 14.6.

  • After the performance testing4:39

After the performance test has been approved the necessary steps required to be carried out are explained in this lecture.

  • Interpreting test results and final report12:09

The form and content of the final test results are explained in this lecture.

  • Knowledge of measurement principles

Description

This course comprehensively covers centrifugal pumps performance testing requirements and procedures according to the API standard 610 12th edition. The API standard 610 includes all requirements for the performance testing of centrifugal pumps given in "ISO 9906 - Rotodynamic pumps — Hydraulic performance acceptance tests — Grades 1, 2 and 3 " and "ANSI/HI 14.6 - Rotodynamic pumps, Hydraulic performance acceptance tests - Grade 1, 2 and 3". Over and above these requirements API standard 610 has several additional requirements. These additional requirements are discussed and explained in detail in this course.

Moreover, there are several special conditions that the customer and supplier can agree on, which than become the part of the performance testing protocol and these requirements override the stipulations of the standard. Such cases are also explained in this course.

Overall, the API standard 610 asks for tighter tolerances and stringent requirements for hydraulic performance testing of pumps. In addition to the hydraulic performance testing the customer can include the following optional tests as well:

1. Mechanical run test

2. NPSH required test

3. Complete unit test

4. Sound level test

5. Auxiliary equipment test

6. Bearing-housing resonance test

7. Spares parts test

An introduction to these optional tests is included in this course. However, detailed course on several of these tests are available separately as some of these test (like sound level tests) require complete understanding of the standards and procedures ab initio.

Who this course is for:

  • Engineers, Managers and professionals in process industry, power plants, refineries and oil and gas sectors
  • Inspectors and quality assurance team members responsible for conducting hydraulic performance tests
  • Persons responsible for preparing pump specifications and acceptance criteria
  • Test bed engineers and managers
