I made this video a long time ago about flow. When it comes to hooping, what does it mean to find your flow? Well, it can mean a couple of things. In the hooping community, from a surface-level perspective, we often see flow as the ability to go from trick to trick without thinking about it, so you're not just doing a bunch of individual tricks but hooping becomes one fluid dance. Each hooper has their own unique flow. Your flow will be different from everyone else's, how cool is that? So how do you find your flow? Well, it takes time. Flow is a state of mind and it requires practice. Practice until muscle memory takes over and the tricks are worn into your body. From there, practice stringing tricks together. One day, you'll be able to turn on a song and just move to the music and go from trick to trick.
Though I want to stress that you don't have to be an advanced hooper to flow! As time goes by, it'll become easier and easier to link tricks together through practice, but flow takes on many shapes. Flow happens when you drop the hoop and keep going. Flow happens when you listen to your favorite song and move along with the hoop. Flow happens when you do one trick over and over. Do you see where I'm going with this? Flow is in everything! When it comes to finding your own flow, try not to compare yourself with other hoopers. I know when I first started, I would watch people that had been hooping for 5+ years whip their hoop around like it was nothing, and when I'd film myself to check my progress, I felt like a failure since I looked nothing like them!
When I stopped comparing myself to others, and simply enjoyed my own journey, I found that I was able to tap into my own unique flow. Even to this day, I'm not the most technical hooper like the hoopers I compared myself to, I simply dance and follow the beat of the music, that's what comes naturally to me in flow. Your flow might be fast or slow, it might favor hip hop dance or ballet. Finding your flow means taking a journey into your mind and body. Have fun with it! Your practice is sacred. I added three flow sequences to this course for a reason, practice them and make them all your own! Get comfortable linking tricks together and bringing dance and energy to each move.
Happy Flowing!
Zoe
Learn the horizontal cat eye with a 31-inch hoop, using a basic isolation, pushing the hoop across the body, guiding it with an open palm, and flowing into a catch.
Learn sustained spinning by stalling the hoop on your chest. Push your chest forward, extend your arms, and spin fast with light feet as you transition from shoulder hooping.
Master the chest roll pop by timing hoop contact with your palm, flicking your hand to catch it and propel the hoop for flow into the Cesaro pop.
Master vertical neck hooping and execute arm and knee breaks with precise timing and spatial awareness, using open space cues to guide the hoop's path.
Learn the foot toss back roll by balancing the hoop, transferring it from hand to foot, and tossing into a controlled back roll with a catch.

So you’d like to start hooping or level up your flow? Awesome! Hula Hooping is one of the best forms of expression, exercise, and self-exploration… But I’ve been hooping for 5 years so maybe I’m a little bit biased. Hula hooping can be daunting and feel like an uphill battle, in the beginning, there are thousands of tutorials out there and so many questions to be answered. What’s the best hoop size for me? How do I even start? How do I get better at hooping? How can I go from beginner to intermediate? How can I go from intermediate to advanced? I created this course to answer so many of those questions, as well as teach you 101 hula hoop tutorials ranging from foundational beginner tricks to crowd-pleasing advanced tricks. This course is your one-stop shop for growing in your hula hoop journey!
This course is all about you! I remember being a beginner hooper and feeling overwhelmed by all of the tutorials out there, and the seemingly infinite amount of tricks, and I felt intimidated watching all of the super talented hoopers out there. Sometimes I even felt bad about my own flow in comparison and what felt like a slow progression. I knew I wanted to become a good hooper, I even wanted to perform someday because I was so passionate about it! But it was a long road teaching myself tricks and scouring the internet for all I could learn about hula hooping. This course is inspired by my 5 years of experience, practice, mistakes, and wins in hooping. It’s been a long, crazy, beautiful ride that’s brought me endless joy. It’s truly been my pleasure to share my love of hooping with flowmies all around the world!
