In this section you'll be getting three analogies that will give you new ways to see education, your kids, and some governmental considerations:
Plus you'll be hearing about different types of homeschool options in the article called “Different Types of Homeschooling Techniques” in which several approaches to homeschooling are presented, along with the benefits and drawbacks of each, how to know if it’s for you, plus resources.
One of the drawbacks of the public school system is that all children are put through under same expectations, and then even graded on them. This article shows how faulty that approach is and why.
In this section, through a variety of articles, we are going to find out more of what “true education” isn’t, what it IS, and what it actually looks like.
"The Heart of True Education" and "Preparing Heart, Soul, 'n' Guts NOW to Homeschool to the END!" are two co-workshops I presented at many homeschool conventions around the country for many years. This will show why we desperately need to hear the voice of the Lord over the MANY LOUD voices of the world! … Why we do NOT need to be intimidated by the school system. …. What our kids’ education can consist of once we are walking in a greater measure of freedom.
I also deal with several myths, like the big question of “What about college?!” And I also expose and dissipate several myths, like: the “Won’t they be missing out?!?!” myth; the “Shielded from the real world” myth; and the “Now it gets really hard” myth, and offer help for dealing with “Gap-a-phobia” where parents ask: “But won’t we leave a lot of “holes” or “gaps” in their education?” ... And then what about having a special, memorable Graduation? And Reunions?!? … The “Meaningful Diploma” issue.
"The Heart of True Education" is actually the first half of the foundation of my message. It opens the door to parents having the freedom to break away from the traditional school system (public or private), and to follow a whole new way of viewing and doing "education"! Chains of fear will start falling off as you see the truth about many areas that, prior to now, have been distorted by societal myths and misperceptions.
The second half of the foundation of my message is coming up via the next resource in this section: "Preparing Heart, Soul, 'n' Guts NOW to Homeschool to the END."
This workshop is the other half of the foundation of my message. Preparing your heart, soul and guts are what opens the door to parents having the freedom to break away from the system to follow what they will start seeing unfold as being possibilities, especially for homeschooling through high school. (The first half is the previous workshop: "The Heart of True Education.")
There are many possible pitfalls that can arise in transitioning from school to homeschool. Some pitfalls happen to the kids themselves, others to the parents, and some to both. In this section we'll see what they are and offer help for preventing or dealing with them.
Because of how common it is for parents to pull their kids OUT of school only to bring them home and do “school at home,” it is vital that we dig deeper into why we think the traditional school system is the best way, why we think it works, and why we are drawn to it even when we start seeing its flaws. Did you know it is actually the system and its step-by-step guides that lead us to think we will do it wrong!? We'll be taking in three Lifestyle of Learning videos that will expose the lies and myths we have been believing.
Is organizing your that home important to homeschooling? Absolutely! And it’s because it has everything to do with how your homeschool will run and how calm and settled you as the mom will be able to be. Since your home is going to be the main center of learning, you want it to be in good working order! After you watch the video, please download and review the PDF in the resource section. If you wish, you can print and utilize the PDF.
People long for the fruit of the Lifestyle of Learning approach, but most people just want to get their stack of curriculum, and expect the results to be good. In reality, the curriculum will only give you a false sense of security. And only for a while. This is because the curriculum will not give you results you want; it’s your entire approach to education linked with the quality of your relationship with your children.
In this section you’ll be introduced to Lifestyle of Learning by Marilyn Howshall, the author and developer of this approach, and Barbie Poling, her assistant. Both of these women have excellent and long-lasting fruit in their now-adult children, but they didn’t get it by accident. Many eye-opening truths are presented in this section that will begin to shed light on what works and doesn’t work for producing good fruit.
Because of how pivotal and foundational relationships are to the process of learning, we are going to give some serious attention to this topic. Relationships are key in the healthy development of happy, healthy children and adults. Plan on this section being both challenging and life-changing. Go into it with your mind and ears wide open and your heart soft. You have much to gain by doing so, and possibly much to lose if you don’t.
This eBook that includes the "Personal Workspace" section presents several simple (but often missed) truths and tools for improving relationships between parent and children, and between children. To complete this lecture, please read "Connecting Hearts, Now and Forever" and complete the work in the "Personal Workspace" section.

This area of romantic relationships profoundly affects anyone's entire life, how much more a child who is not yet mature enough to handle it? If you attempt to homeschool but the child's heart is "leaking" out in this area, or worse, getting broken, you and your child will find yourselves very frustrated. Becoming whole and educated and closer to God will not be their focus. When romantic relationships are the focus, growing and maturing in a healthy way is, very simply stunted.
Focusing on romantic relationships is a tremendous distraction. Any person in a relationship, particularly a person who is not yet mature or confident in who they are, is going to turn all their waking energies and affections on pleasing that person, thinking of when they'll be with them again, wondering what that person is doing. If it's been too long for you to remember this, just observe pretty much any teenager in such a relationship, and it will all quickly come back!
So you’ll be introduced to a healthy, whole-person way of looking at this area. It’s actually nothing new, but to most people, it’s “hidden in plain sight.” So most people ignore it. Listen with an open heart and mind, take what seems right to you, leave the rest.

In this section we’ll explore an area of homeschooling that is vitally important, yet it is seldom considered by parents seeking to homeschool their children. In fact, much of what you’ll be taking in you’ve probably never heard before, yet it will make a tremendous difference in the direction you take in homeschooling, and the fruit you will see in your children.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will launch you into viewing "education" in a whole new way! You will see your children as more than just "school students" who need to have curriculum poured into their heads. It will launch you into discovering and creating a new way of life, and will give you the needed tools to feel confident to teach your children and transform your relationships with them for the better.
Considering that "Education is not the filling of a head, but the lighting of a fire," this course will equip you to learn how to light a fire that, rather than burning out your children with too much “school at home” will help your family soar above the burn-out norm.
In this course, Barb Shelton, veteran and pioneer homeschooler, who homeschooled their three children for 24 years, from K-graduation, will cover a wide variety of topics that will give you a fresh perspective on “all the above.” It will redirect those who have been homeschooling for years and are already burning out, even (especially), and give them new hope and focuses.
Most families merely drag through their children's childhood, which they only get ONE of, missing out on ALL sorts of opportunities for true learning, bonding, and preparation for real life. Soon enough they’ll be gone, with lives of their own. Help make these years count in the most meaningful of ways, and launch them into a lifetime of learning.
HOMESCHOOL BIO ON BARB:
(There is a generic bio on Barb on Udemy, but it's not homeschool-specific. This one is...)
Barb Shelton homeschooled her and husband Dave's three children from 1982 - when homeschooling was almost unheard of - until 2006 when they graduated their youngest. Not only did Barb live to tell about it, she also wrote to tell how to do it via 8 books, spoke on a creative variety of homeschooling topics around the country, and at present enjoys sweet relationships with all six of their kids (the three got married doubling the number) and their four grandkids.
Barb is also the leader of the Homeschool Alliance of SW Washington, which acts as a net to assist families coming out of the public school system find direction and help to connect in the homeschool realm.
Barb’s multi-faceted message is vital to all homeschooling parents whether they are brand new or burning-out. Jesus said "My yoke is easy, my burden is light," so why are so many homeschoolers so over-burdened?! You'll find out why and how to avoid it in this course.
With vulnerability, humor, and God's truth, Barb inspires parents to pursue God's "yoke" for them ~ His unique plan for the education of their own children, and offers many practical, doable, user-friendly, and just plain fun tools for doing so.
