Requirements

  • A working copy of Maya is needed for this course

Description

nCloth is a very powerful simulation tool that ships natively with Maya. It works with Mayas nucleus system which is intuitive and easy to use. nCloth is also able to interact with other nucleus basedsimualtio9n such ads nParticle, nHair nDynamics etc.

One of the most common first steps into using nCloth is to generate a waving flag. This course will be using this common entry level activity as this is an easy way in. As well as explaining the tools and techniques in depth, this course will also be taking this exercise a step further. We will be looking at additional techniques such as tearing cloth, lighting and rendering the scene and compositing the flag in VFX plate. For the compositing of the flag, I will show you how to approach the shot in Nuke and then after Effects. The course will summarise with a final assignment where you will need to utilise the skills and techniques learnt in the course.

The only pre-requisites to this course are as follows:

A basic understanding of navigating Maya
A working copy of Maya
A working copy of Nuke and/or After Effects

The rest I will teach you from the ground up across 1 main exercise

My name is Jonathon Parker, a Motion Graphics and Visual Effects lecturer from the UK.

Firstly, a little background about me! I have always been the creative type and always strive to improve and push my creative skills further and further.

As stated above I am already teaching in the UK as a Motion Graphics and VFX lecturer – The difference with my courses will be the fact that they come from an educator, not someone doing this just in their spare time! All my courses focus on teaching and assessment. I will teach you a few skills and then set you an assignment to check that those skills have been learnt. I also see the importance of generating handouts and resources for the student, so I have included these in my courses also!

I have a First-Class BA (HONS) in Visual Effects and motion graphics, and also a Masters in Animation. After working a few years in industry, I would occasionally guest lecture at the college I used to attend. After doing this I decided to go into teaching full time where I achieved my teaching qualification.

Now that I am here on Udemy I hope to further spread my extensive knowledge through my teaching practice! Check out the social media links on my profile and get involved!
