Why is it so hard to change the way we speak, act, and think? Can we actually change how we speak, think, and feel? And, if so, what’s the secret?
This lesson answers those questions and teaches you why “immersion” is vital to your being able to completely transform how you think and speak in the shortest period of time possible. You’ll also learn the science behind immersion.
Do you feel like you don’t have time to do the exercises every day? What if sometimes you just don’t feel like doing them?
This lesson addresses that challenge and teaches you how to use the mini-habits strategy to get started and build momentum as quickly as possible, so you reach your goals faster than ever before.
Questions answered in this lesson:
1. Why does it feel like something is holding you back from progressing?
2. Why do you feel like your thoughts, feelings, and speech are out of your control sometimes?
3. How can you get control over them? And how does this affect your confidence?
4. How can you stop thinking negative thoughts and start thinking more positive and constructive thoughts in the moment?
5. Can you stop feeling so anxious, tense, and nervous and start feeling more relaxed, calm, and confident?
6. Why is it that the more you focus on something, the worse it gets or the harder it is to change, and what can you do about it?
7. Why does it feel like you’re not making progress even though you’re doing everything you’re supposed to do? Or, are you actually making progress and just haven’t seen it yet?
Understand the science behind this system so you can feel confident that this is the very best solution for you and that it will get you the results you want and need.
In this lesson, you will learn the importance of self-talk and why it is absolutely critical to making changes to the way you think and speak going forward. Without it, nothing else works.
In this lesson, you will learn how to keep yourself inspired and motivated by not focusing so much on your failures and mistakes. But instead, you’ll learn how to notice and find your successes, no matter how small they may be. This focus will give you the traction you need to keep going even when things appear to not be working.
Learn how to track your progress and, using the law of accumulation, build momentum so that you create more and more successes, fueling your progress and accelerating your journey to smooth speech.
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to stop avoiding situations out of fear and worry and start creating opportunities because you’re confident and excited about your new-found ability to speak well.
You’ll learn how to develop this little-known perspective to keep you moving forward despite the normal setbacks and disappointments everyone experiences on this journey. This lesson will help you stay focused, hopeful, and confident about your progress every step of the way so you can more quickly achieve the results you want.
If you struggle with negative anticipation, worry, and other thoughts and feelings that cause you to feel anxious and nervous and physically speak poorly, then this lesson is for you.
Discover what smooth self-talk is and why it’s important. Learn the first two steps to implementing smooth speech and self-talk.
In this session, you’ll learn the second step in the 3-step process for changing your self-talk. You’ll learn how to get off of those “negative trains of thought” that are taking you where you don’t want to go.
In this lesson, you will learn how to “substitute” one way of thinking (negative and destructive) with another way of thinking (positive and constructive). This will help you create a mental environment more conducive to feeling confident and speaking well.
Do you ever worry or feel anxious about an upcoming speaking experience, like a meeting, phone call, interview, social situation, or even ordering food or coffee?
Well, what if there was a way you could quickly prepare yourself mentally and emotionally so that you would feel excited and enthusiastic instead of worried and fearful? There is, and it’s called verbalization, and that’s what you’ll learn how to do in this lesson.
5 Step Mental Rehearsal Process
1. Relax
2. Imagine the environment
3. View as 3rd person
4. View as 1st person
5. Re-emerge back to reality with 7x7x7
Do you ever wonder why, despite all of your efforts, you continue to slip back into old patterns of thinking, feeling, and speaking?
If so, you’ll learn exactly why and what to do about it in this and the following lessons because it has everything to do with your “speaking identity.”
What’s the story you’ve been replaying over and over in your head about who you are as a person and as a speaker? Did you know that this story line is what keeps you from changing? Did you also know that you can rewrite this story?
That’s what you’ll learn and do in this lesson, rewrite your story so that it reads the way you want it to and reflects the kind of person and life you want and deserve.
Have you ever said, “Whenever I’m in this kind of situation, I tend to anticipate, block, or otherwise struggle with my speech?"
Well, in this lesson, you’ll learn how those statements are reflective of your current speaking identity and how this also determines how you will speak in the future. You’ll learn how to change this identity.
Did you know that you already know how to model? You've known how to do it since the day you were born.
Modeling is a powerful tool for learning new skills and habits, and that’s what you’ll learn in this lesson. You’ll also learn why modeling really helps in high-pressure situations.
Wouldn’t it be cool if you could get inside the mind of someone you really admired? If you could see how they thought about certain things?
Well, that’s what you’ll learn in this lesson, as well as how this will help you adopt your model’s attitude and way of thinking.
Ever felt fearful or worried about your ability to say what you want to say in certain situations?
How would your model feel in that situation? In this lesson, you’ll learn how to tap into the feelings your model would have and embody them yourself.
Did you know that you and everyone else around you learned many of their behaviors, mannerisms, and skills by mimicking those around them?
You learn about observational learning and how you can use it to “borrow” the speaking style of your model and make it yours. You’ll also learn why this process is important.
Okay, so you’re now able to mimic your model when practicing by yourself, but how does this help when you’re speaking with others, especially when under pressure?
That’s what you’ll learn in this lesson.
In this lesson, you’ll meet a real person who took modeling very seriously and quickly transformed her entire life. Join me in this inspiring interview and hear how she did it and how you can do it too.
You may be wondering, “How do I actually practice modeling?” That’s what you’ll learn in this lesson.
In this bonus lesson, I explain in great detail how you’re already very capable of creating a brand-new speaking style and speaking identity. You did it as a baby. You still do it now, often unconsciously, and you can do it now. I also share at least one example of someone famous who modeled.
Do you feel a bit anxious before you have to speak? Do you also feel a bit anxious or tense while speaking?
Well, this is quite common. So, in this lesson, you’ll learn how to become a more relaxed person and feel calmer before and during speech. But you’ll also learn that even if you do feel a bit anxious, you can still perform well, as it is normal to feel a little nervous before certain speaking experiences.
Why do you run out of breath sometimes? How can you get more control over your breathing while speaking? Is there something you can actually do to relax yourself?
Those questions will be answered in this lesson with this very practical and effective breathing exercise.
Do you find yourself blocking, starting, and stopping while speaking? Is it hard for you to maintain a smooth flow while speaking?
Well, in this lesson, you’ll learn the one exercise that has changed so many lives almost instantly, the Free-Flow Speaking Exercise. I’ll show you step-by-step how to do it as well as how and why it benefits you.
Do you have trouble with overthinking while speaking? Does this interrupt your flow of thoughts and ideas as well as your speech?
Then you’ll love this exercise. It will help you learn how to speak without thinking (yes, you can and should be doing this a lot), speak while thinking, and, on occasion, speak before you think (this is something you actually don’t have to do as much as you think, believe it or not).
Speaking should be mostly like walking; you do it easily, naturally, and effortlessly without even thinking about it.
What do you do when you’re speaking and you get stuck? Is there anything you can do? Or must you just push it out like you usually do and keep going?
No, there is something you can do about it that’s very natural and smooth. People do it all the time without knowing that they’re doing it. It will also assist you in maintaining natural, smooth speech.
That’s what you’ll learn how to do in this session on airflow linking.
Do you ever feel pressured into speaking quickly? Do you find it extremely difficult to slow down and maintain this speed? Do you sometimes feel like it will be weird to speak slowly? How can you tell if you’re speaking too slowly?
We’ll answer all of these questions in this bonus session, where everything I share with you has been client- and time-tested. So, you can feel confident that it really works!
Do you ever avoid speaking opportunities? Does this cause you to miss out on a lot of things you’d really like to experience? Do you sometimes feel bad about it?
Do you wish there was a way you could have more control over your speech right now?
In this lesson, I will teach you how to become more proactive so you can take life by the horns and start doing what you really want to do. You’ll also learn how to speak in a way that gives you greater control over your speech and infuses energy and enthusiasm into it, which keeps others engaged.
Do you find yourself chopping your words off, losing airflow, and just feeling like you can’t smoothly get those words out?
Then this lesson alone could help you smooth yourself out tremendously. While you’re probably already familiar with this skill, study it closely, apply it the way I share it with you, and watch the results you get.
If you find yourself speaking choppy, this lesson will help you with that. You’ll learn exactly how to maintain smooth airflow and sound so that your speech sounds natural and rhythmic, making your voice easier to listen to and thus more influential.
This lesson brings the previous two lessons together so that you have a clearer understanding of how to use extending and blending in your daily conversations. You’ll also learn the difference between the two and when to use one or both in speech.
If you find yourself anticipating words and getting stuck or speaking and coming upon a word that you just can’t get out, this lesson will help. We already discussed this in another lesson, but I’ve added it again here as one of the proactive speaking skills you can actively use when you need to.
Do you swallow some of your words, speak with your mouth barely open, or chop off your words? These are all ways to make your speech unclear.
Sometimes I call it “lazy speaking." While some of what we discuss in this lesson is technically enunciating, we’ll broaden the term "articulation" to include this, and you’ll see why. Learning to articulate will give you better control and make your speech sound crystal clear, even if you have an accent.
In this lesson, I’ll give you a few exercises you can practice to improve how you articulate and how you can put this into practice in your daily speech.
Do you ever feel like your speech is a little flat or monotone? How can this affect your ability to engage people, hold their attention, influence them, or persuade them?
That’s what you’ll learn in this lesson and so much more. You’ll also learn how inflecting creates greater energy, enthusiasm, and momentum in your speech, which really comes in handy when you’re about to get stuck or even prevents you from getting stuck in the first place.
Does your speech lack the ability to engage people the way you’d like? If so, then this is the lesson for you.
You’ll learn how to combine everything you’ve learned above to pull people into your energy and keep them there without needing to adopt a speaking style that doesn’t fit your personality. You’ll also learn why emphasizing serves as a great way to help you smoothly say those words you anticipated having trouble with.
Do you know what happens to you and your listener when you don’t use any body language? Well, let me tell you, it’s not good.
So, in this lesson, we’ll discuss why it’s important to use body language and which parts of your body to use and how to use them.
Do you tend to look away when you're struggling with your speech? Do you know why you do this? While the why is not that important, what is important is that you learn why you should focus more forward and "how" to do that. That's what we'll discuss in this video.
If you tend to cut your words off, you’re making it harder for your listeners to understand you, especially if you have an accent. Also, when you finish your words, you gain more control over your speech and are able to speak much more smoothly.
That’s what you’ll learn in this lesson, as well as how exactly to finish your words.
Do you tend to “interrupt” yourself while speaking? That is, you start a sentence or a thought and then change your mind?
When this happens, you end up muddying your thoughts and confusing the listener.
In this lesson, I explain why you do this and how to stop it and start finishing out your sentences and thoughts for greater smoothness and clarity. You’ll love the immediate effect this has on you.
Do you feel confident that you can hold an intelligent and free-flowing conversation with anyone, anywhere, at any time?
That’s what you’ll learn in this lesson.
How confident are you in your ability to present information in a smooth, clear, and confident manner?
How confident would you like to be? Well, in this lesson, I’ll show you how to smoothly, clearly, and confidently articulate your thoughts so that people understand and follow your logic easily.
This has the end result of making you more persuasive and influential.
You’re asked a question you’re not quite prepared to answer, so what do you do? How do you feel? How do you respond?
In this lesson, I’ll show you how to think on your feet with poise and confidence so that even if you don’t know the answer, you’ll still come out looking and sounding like a pro.
Do you struggle to say “Hello” or give certain numbers over the phone? This is quite common, believe it or not. This used to happen to me as well.
In this lesson, I’ll share with you the secrets to being able to speak calmly by phone so you can say what you want and need to say with ease.
I used to hate reading aloud in front of people. I could see the words coming. I know some of you struggle with this too, and that’s why I created this lesson.
This advice really works, so check it out and put it into practice the next time you read aloud. Once I did, people started asking me to read aloud more than I wanted.
This may seem like a strange question to ask. But sometimes we forget why we are communicating, especially in certain situations. When this happens, we become self-focused and lose sight of our listeners, what their needs are, what we are communicating, and why.
This lesson clarifies that for you so that you can take the pressure off of yourself and shift the focus where it needs to be during any conversation, presentation, interview, or meeting.
Ever wonder whether or not what you were saying was relevant or valuable to the person(s) with whom you were speaking? If you got the sense that it wasn't, that probably threw you off a bit.
In this lesson, we’ll give you a mental tool you can use to make sure you’re always adding value as well as being relevant while you’re speaking.
When you speak, do people listen? Are they tuned into what you’re saying? Or, do they look away, have a lost or confused look on their face?
This lesson will teach you how to engage and impact your listeners so that when you speak, they listen and love hearing what you have to say.
When you speak, do people understand what you are saying, and are they following your logic? If they can't, you'll lose them, and they will not enjoy hearing you speak, which means you’ll be less likely to influence them.
In this lesson, we’ll show you what it means to be clear stylistically and structurally so that when you speak, people understand you, even if you have an accent, and they’ll be able to follow the logic and flow of what you’re saying.
When you know that you have to present your thoughts in any meeting, conversation, or presentation, you begin to think about it and anticipate it. The only question is whether or not you positively or negatively anticipate it.
I’ll show you how to use this natural state to start preparing and looking forward to the event rather than worrying about it, which is most definitely not helpful.
What are your listeners expecting to hear from you when you speak? The clearer you are about this, the more confident you will feel, and the more authority you’ll project, the more the listener will stay tuned to what you’re saying.
This lesson will show you how to prepare so that you can smoothly and easily share your thoughts and ideas with your listeners.
How would you like to be able to effortlessly, clearly, and concisely share your thoughts, ideas, and information without notes or slides?
This lesson will show you how to prepare so that you never have to use notes or slides again unless you really want to. You'll learn what steps to take so you can always prepare a little at a time, anywhere and at any time. This eliminates the need for long, grueling presentation cram sessions.
These are two fairly common things people tend to do just before they present. They can really screw things up for you if you let them.
What are they? That’s what I’ll share with you in this lesson.
Are there a handful of actions you can take just before your presentation that could make the difference between success and failure?
The answer is absolutely yes! If you take these 4 actions, you’ll find that you feel more relaxed, confident, in control, and prepared to give your audience or listeners exactly what they want and need from you.
Some, if not most, of these strategies can be used in formal informational, in-person, and video presentations. They will help you connect with your audience and feel relaxed and in control. They will help your audience stay focused on you and what you’re saying and see you as an authority figure, even if you’re not.
Have you ever felt nervous or anxious just before and during a presentation? If so, this is quite normal. However, that doesn’t mean you have to perform poorly.
What if you could feel however you wanted and still perform exceptionally well?
In this lesson, I’ll share with you a very simple action you can take to override your natural tendency at the start of a presentation, giving you full control and projecting calmness and confidence to your listeners.
How would you like to get your audience on your side right off the bat? Well, this simple action does it.
In this lesson, you’ll learn why you should do this and how to do it authentically.
Why in the world would you want to ask questions at the beginning of your presentation?
The reasons may surprise you, but they will help you understand how they enable you to better engage your audience and earn their respect. Check out this lesson, put into practice what you learn the next time you have to present, and watch what happens.
Want to present without notes, keep eye contact with your listeners, maintain your presentation structure, and communicate in a completely natural way?
That’s what you’ll learn in this lesson using this Q&A structure. It works like magic.
Sometimes your audience will have questions. Should you save them for the end? Should you take them right away? Why should you thank them for their questions?
We’ll answer those questions in this lesson.
Ever had an interview where you didn’t completely understand or answer the question being asked of you? Well, this happens in presentations too. So how can you prevent this?
Use this simple little question I share with you in this lesson. Learn why it’s important and why it works to develop good rapport with your audience.
Why would you want to smile or at least have a pleasant look on your face during presentations?
What if you feel nervous? What if no one else is smiling? Won’t it seem inauthentic to smile if you don’t feel like it?
I’ll answer those questions and more in this lesson. You’ll learn how powerfully this one little action can affect both you and your listener.
Ever notice how some people are really paying attention to you, nodding and even smiling from time to time?
These are your energy boosters. You’ll learn in this lesson how to go to them and get energy that you then transfer to others. This may work differently on video, however, so be on the lookout for a special set of lessons on presentation on camera.
Sometimes you’ll get people in your audience who either on purpose or inadvertently hijack or seemingly take over your role as presenter. So, what can you do about it without being offensive or losing your cool? That’s what you’ll learn in this lesson.
How would you like another way to keep yourself from getting distracted, off track, and off point during your presentation?
In this lesson, we’ll discuss a way for you to put your focus squarely on the needs and interests of your audience. This will help your audience feel satisfied and even inspired as they listen to you present.
If you do what I recommend in this lesson, it will change the way you see and feel about your audience and how you structure your presentations.
Want a way to make sure you don’t overwhelm your listener and yourself? Want a way to make sure they walk away with the most important points?
This lesson will show you a little tactic I use a lot to make sure my listeners remember the key points of my presentations, often long after the presentation is over. Some may find it annoying, but most like it because it helps them remember.
By doing the things you learn in this lesson, you’ll help your listeners leave your presentation remembering what you discussed, feeling listened to and respected, and seeing you as a real leader and expert.
Why are you interviewing? I know this sounds like a silly question, but it’s not. When you’re clear about “why” you’re interviewing, you can stay focused on those things that will serve you and help you respond appropriately, rather than allowing yourself to get distracted by thoughts and feelings that don’t serve you well.
You’ll learn how to do that in this lesson.
You know you have an interview coming up, what do you tend to think about? Do you ever worry or think about what you don’t want to happen?
Believe it or not, many people spend a great deal of energy thinking about what they “don’t” want to happen rather than how they actually want things to go.
In this lesson, I’ll show you a proven strategy for preparing for your interviews that will help you feel calm, confident, and extremely prepared for anything they throw at you, even if you don’t know the answer.
There are certain things you definitely should not do on the day of the interview. And, of course, there are things you absolutely should do.
In this lesson, I’ll tell you what those things are so that you don’t make the same mistakes many people make that are completely unnecessary if they only knew what you’re about to find out in this session.
