In this course, I will guide you through a simple and easy-to-follow step-by-step process in order to start your very own podcast. This course is a combination of video instructions and supplemental documents which you can download and access at any time.
Once you’ve graduated from the course, you will receive a complimentary one-on-one consultation before you launch your podcast.
Are you ready to become a Podcast Rockstar? Let’s get started!
With over 2 million Podcasts and 48 million episodes, you are starting at the right time. Download and print out the course Workbook provided in this section as you will be utilizing it throughout the first half of this course.
In order to deliver a successful Podcast, you will learn the definition of a podcast and why this is important.
There is a three-step process to launching your next podcast episode. Learn what they are and why they are important. You will follow these three steps everytime you launch ( publish) a new episode or show.
Refer to questions 2-9 in your Workbook. These will aid in choosing your show topic.
When creating your show Topic Keep these ideas in mind:
Something that interests you
Something that gets you “fired up”. You will enjoy doing it. It won’t be a “chore”.
Do your research. Find out what else is out there.
BE VERY SPECIFIC
Find out how they are listening and where they are listening from.
I found out that almost all of my listeners were coming from the US and listening on Spotify. I was creating trivia for Canadian listeners, listening at home. I then geared my trivia towards an American audience listening in their vehicles.
You will not know how they are listening until after you broadcast your show, but make sure to check your stats and adjust accordingly
* We will cover how to check your stats in the 2nd half of the course.
The most popular show topics are educational and comedy but there is an endless amount to choose from such as:
series. ...
True crime. ...
Chat shows. ...
Global news. ...
Sports. ...
Food. ...
Paranormal.
Your show Topic could be a lesson, a story, an audiobook, an interview show, a news program, movie reviews, the possibilities are endless. Make sure to find out what else is out there and what makes your show unique.
This lesson will cover the importance of a good title for your show and your workbook will aid in workshopping the title.
Refer to questions 10-13 in your workbook.
How will they find you? Think of it like google. Can they type your title in the search bar of the podcast app?
For example, if it is a cooking show, make your title specific to the genre, not just " Cooking with Sally" but " Learn to cook traditional Mexican dishes"
Road trip. Spotify. The first one to come up.
Great title, easy to find. Don’t make it vague. Simpler the better.
This lesson will cover the importance of a tagline and how to create your own.
Refer to questions 14-16 in your Workbook.
Your cover art is the first impression most people will see as they browse through their favorite podcast app.
Along with the title, this should explain your show.
Cover Art specifications and resources are listed in the downloadable materials.
Refer to question 17 in your Workbook.
Keep it short. The average length for a show is 22 minutes.
If your show is One-hour in length. Cut it down to 4 -15 minute episodes.
Once you have a library of episodes, increase length.
Starting out, want to encourage them to come back.
People have the attention span of a goldfish so don’t ramble
Always end on a cliffhanger, so they want more.
On average people talk 100 words a minute, so that should give you a guideline if you are scripting.
Refer to Questions 18-19 in your Workbook.
This lesson will cover your music and sound effects for your podcast. A list of resources is available in the downloadable documents.
Refer to questions 20, 22, and 23 in your workbook.
