Course content

1 section14 lectures2h 27m total length
  • Introduction to Learning in Dentistry by LOOKING in the Right Direction6:29
  • SEEING while doing occlusal outline of Class II9:06
  • SEEING while doing Class II Proximal Box18:00

Master how to visualize and outline a class II proximal box, verify margins, clearance, and axial wall position, using the mirror and a 45-degree angle with proper vertical alignment.

  • SEEING while doing Anterior Crown Facial Reduction16:05
  • SEEING while doing Anterior Crown Incisal Reduction7:46

Perform incisal reduction by comparing the prep to adjacent teeth, aiming ~2 mm with correct planes, and use lingual reduction at marginal ridges to ensure clearance.

  • SEEING while doing Anterior Crown Proximal Reduction9:44
  • SEEING while doing Anterior Crown Lingual Fossa9:21
  • SEEING while doing Posterior Crown Occlusal Reduction16:16
  • SEEING while doing Posterior Crown Axial Reduction8:32
  • SEEING while doing Retentive Grooves12:13
  • SEEING while doing Partial Veneer Gold Crowns10:36
  • SEEING while checking draw for single crowns9:07

Evaluate draw in single crown preps by checking four opposing wall sets (facial, lingual, mesial, distal) and corners along the axis with both eyes open to ensure proper draw.

  • SEEING while checking draw for Bridges/Multiple retentive features6:52
  • Summary and Challenge7:24

Description

This course SHOWS you how to SEE what you have to see for every step of a variety of different dental preparations in each quadrant of the mouth.  A typodont is mounted in a manikin, so each quadrant is simulated.  There are a variety of preparations on the typodont and you can see EXACTLY what I see while I look in the best direction for doing every part of the prep.

Students rarely go through the thought process to KNOW what MUST be seen for every step.  Then there is nothing to guide them as to which way to LOOK.  Generally looking the wrong direction will lead to errors in the prep - failing errors.

When you consciously decide what must be seen and make certain you DO see it, then you can do preparations that are far more successful.  Of course, once you decide what must be seen, you must work out which DIRECTION to look so you CAN see what is important.

You will see through MY eyes what I am seeing for every part of a variety of preparations.  You will also see how I position myself relative to the head and how the head is tilted so that I CAN see what must be seen in an inset video.

For example:  most damage to adjacent teeth is done because the operator does not KNOW they are damaging the adjacent tooth - because they are looking the wrong direction.  It is sometimes the case that the strategy for DOING that part of the prep will likely lead to problems, but given a good strategy - seeing how close the bur is to the adjacent tooth is critical!

This course is designed to help you think through an approach that will give you success in your preparations, and allow preps to be done quickly and efficiently - an invaluable benefit for the rest of your practice life!
