Explore decentralized finance basics, benefits, and the five key use cases — lending and borrowing, decentralized exchanges, stablecoins and CBD, assets and derivatives, and payments — with a practical step-by-step guide.
Discover DeFi alternatives to Ethereum through the privacy-first secret network. Learn how secret contracts enable programmable privacy, asset wrapping into secret tokens, and Dow governance while addressing frontrunning.
Explore how compound enables lending and borrowing with collateral, earning interest on deposits, and managing liquidation risk through safe borrowing limits.
Discover the systemic risks in DeFi, including smart contract and governance risk. Evaluate exposure to centralized teams and unknown developers, and invest cautiously.
Set up MetaMask, verify the version, copy the address, and fund with a small amount of ETH to explore protocols and make DeFi work.
Trade synthetic assets on the synthetics exchange, including silver and gold, forex, and crypto synths, using a Chainlink oracle and collateralized loans to access assets outside the crypto world.
At the end of this course you will have been taught the following:
What DeFi is at a fundamental level
What the 5 main Use Cases of DeFi are
Why they are the widely used
How people are using them today
How they may evolve in the future
The best dApps and services for each use case
How you can use them to benefit
How to set up a Metamask Ethereum wallet
How to use the safest and most popular DeFi tools and services for earning profit in this exciting new space!
After you've completed this course you will feel confident entering the world of cryptocurrency decentralized finance and have the necessary tools to benefit from this new, global opportunity. Students will feel comfortable interacting with Ethereum based DeFi and EVM compatible projects like Optimism, Polygon, BSC, and other Layer 2 blockchain networks. We have chosen to focus only on Ethereum as they have the most TVL (total value locked) out of all DeFi chains and offer the most reliable, secure smart contracts for participating in DeFi.
We will be using the Metamask Ethereum wallet exclusively as they allow switching between Layer 2 blockchain networks and also offer compatibility for using a hardware wallet like Ledger or Trezor which is much more secure.
