How to produce a Modern Deep Garage House track in Ableton

This course is a tutorial on how to produce a Deep House record with various techniques and styles put together to complete a full track ready for a DJ set or a live remix performance in Ableton Live 9 software. The course is structured in separate lessons starting with the importing of sounds and drum hits, bass line creation, third party plug in synth production all the way to a fully arranged composition. This tutorial requires some basic knowledge of Ableton and will give you the insight into how to progress with this type of dance music genre. It gives you the techniques on how to manipulate sounds and has creative ways of chopping up vocal samples and adding various key sounds to build up the track in its entirety. When you begin lesson one you will need to download the sample pack which is embedded within the first lecture.

The first lesson shows you how to import drum sample hits in order to create a drum pattern using waves and the Ableton Drum rack plug in. You need to follow the google drive link in this tutorial in order to begin the course. There are two folders within that zip file which you need to download ready for importing.

Here we begin to create the bass from scratch using a simple tone in Operator and manipulating it into a full FM Bass sound. We also begin to add some synths to the track using a third party plug in to create an arpeggio pattern. Finally we will add a chord pad synth sample and key it to the track and do some other processing such as looping and adding release and sustain to the sound to make it a fully playable synth

Here we will add some vocal snippets and recreate them using a sampler where we can manipulate the vocals in order to fit into the track. The vocal will be converted from audio to midi and is then mapped out on the keyboard automatically so that we can perform a rhythmic pattern to fit the track.

Here we will add a sub bass synth vst and an organ bassline for the second phase of the track. Be sure to download the Tal Bass Line synth in the link here on this lecture and install the DLL file to your vst folder. Here we will process the sound to create a deep sub bass.

This lesson we add a real viola string sample and record in a simple pattern using the simpler. This will be done by importing a string sample and fitting it into the key of the track. We will then add some eq to remove the bottom end of the sound to make it thinner so that it fits into the mix.

Here we begin to lay out the structure of the track for the arrangement. We will start with the beats and work our way up to the first breakdown of the track.

Continuing with the arrangement we will be moving towards the full body of the track which will lead us upto the middle section where we will add the next bass line and the main drop.

This part of the arrangement will be focusing on the organ bass line section of the track where we will combine the two sections of the composition together.

The final part of the arrangement will be taking us to the end of the track. We will do some editing of sounds and go back to the main body of the track where it will breakdown to just beats for a DJ friendly style of ending.

Here we will render midi files and convert them over to audio waves for the mix down. This is to help save on cpu and to give us more volume to work with as a wave file can be processed louder than midi.

Here we will begin the mix down process where we start with beats and work our way though to the different layers of sound. I have also included here screen shot images of the EQ settings that I have applied to the main instruments.

Here we will perform a basic mastering session to get the levels of the track raised and to tweak some frequencies in order to get a final wave file for a finished product. Here we will be using plug ins such as a compressor, Multi band Dynamics and a limiter.
