With the current trend in fashion, how cool will it be if you could make your own earrings?
Hi! My name is Gladys Dottey, and together in this course, we will be learning how to make African inspired tassel earrings.
We will first learn the tools and materials going to be needed to make the tassel earring, then I will walk you through a series of steps in making it.
If you’re ready, let’s get started.
In this lesson, we will be learning how to make tassel earrings. Materials needed include; Embroidery thread, Tassel maker from 8cm* 16cm
cardboard, Eye pin (2 pieces), Earring hooks (2 pieces), 8mm jump rings(2 pieces), Beading scissors, Round nose plier, Bent flat nose plier and a Cutter.
This lesson covers the process in making the tassel. First, put the thread on the card and roll it over to get your desired size. Cut the thread off when you are satisfied with the size and then tie the middle portions on each end of the card, with three or four pieces of the thread, to complete the tassel. When tying, move it around for about two to three times then cut off the remnant. Now, cut them off the card. Continuing with the process, tie the earlier tied portion with a strand of thread to form the neck of the tassel. Repeat the same process for the other tassel. Now, trim to make the threads evenly distributed.
This lesson is the final session of making the tassel earring. We will be learning how to add the hooks to the tassel. Two eye pins and two earring hooks are needed. With your round nose plier, open the eye pin and pass it through the head of the tassel and tie. Repeat the same process with the other tassel. Cut the eye pin to the desired size and with the aid of the plier, bend the eye pin backwards and insert the earring hook after which you close it. Once again, repeat the same process for the other tassel.
And the tassel earring is ready.
Congratulations on successfully completing this course. With the knowledge acquired, I believe you can go ahead and make your own tassel earrings.

This video covers the tools and materials needed to make the lapel pin.
The tools needed include a pair of scissors and a glue gun. Whereas the materials needed to get started are a fabric, fabric glue and lapel pins to finish up.
In this video, we will learn how to cut our fabric to form little circles that will later be folded to form the folded part of the lapel pin.
You can use a shaper to draw your circles and further use the first made circle as a tinsel to draw your other circles in order to get even circles.
To avoid wastage of the fabric as much as possible, cut from the edges instead of the middle. About 10 circles will do.
To prevent the edges from fraying off, we will be learning how to glue the edges.
Use the fabric glue but don’t employ a lot otherwise, it will become too stiff.
Now, glue the edges of all the 10 circles that you have made.
In this video, we will be learning how to fold the circles and add the pins to complete the process.
We will begin with the folding of the circles into the form of a cone. Heat your glue gun and use it to glue the edge of the cone. Then add the folded part making sure all the pointed parts are facing the same direction. If you do not have the glue gun available, you can use the fabric glue like we did when we were securing the edges in the previous lecture. Repeat the same process with the remaining circles and make sure there is no open end.
Now, to add the pin, since you already have a smooth surface, just glue the pin to it. Or you can add another fabric, glue it and make sure your pin is also glued, then stick the two together.
And your lapel pin is ready.
