Description
In this course, we will be creating a larger-than-life fat lady sculpture, inspired by the iconic Niki de Saint Phalle nana sculptures. If you’re not familiar with her work, Niki de Saint Phalle was a French sculptor and painter known for her colourful and whimsical sculptures of women. Her Nanas, in particular, are playful and joyful representations of the female form.
Niki is one of the most celebrated artists of the 21st century. Her style was very simple and colourful and is recognised worldwide. She was most famous for her nanas, which symbolise joy and liberty. Her art is often playful, almost infantile, and, most importantly, self-taught.
Our sculpture will be made out of papier mache, a versatile and affordable medium that is perfect for creating large-scale sculptures. Throughout the course, we will cover the basics of papier mache, from creating stands and armatures to mixing paste and apply layers of paper, followed by paper clay.
By the end of the course, you will have created your very own fat lady sculpture in the style of Niki de Saint Phalle. Whether you’re an experienced sculptor or a complete beginner, this course is the perfect opportunity to explore the world of papier mache and unleash your creativity.
So, grab your newspaper and paste and lets get started!
Who this course is for:

Instructor
Hi, I'm Rachael.
I have loved art since I was a child and have always been very creative. I am particularly passionate about papier mache sculpture.
I upcycle my household rubbish and transform it, with the help of papier mache, into sculptures.
My long-term goal is to allow nothing to leave the house. Everything will become art :-)
When I do not feel like getting my hands too dirty, I create digital designs.
Welcome to my course, learning how to make a fat lady sculpture in papier mache.
