How to make a Beaded Baseball Cap Key chain and a Bow Ring

This lesson covers the procedure in creating the semi-circle for the cap. You will need about a yard of your fishing line and 20 pieces of your 8 mm crystals to make the semi-circle.

Begin with 5 pieces and insert the fishing line through them, interlacing the fifth piece by allowing the string to pass through it in opposite directions. It is highly advised that you hold the strings together to give you an even distribution. And this becomes the base of the baseball cap key chain.

To form the dome part, the process used in creating the base should be repeated. However, four beads are used instead of five and the fourth crystal is interlaced as seen before. Then the process is repeated with three beads. At this point, you will realize you are almost through with the dome. Insert the right string through two of the base crystals and then add two extra crystals. Due to the loose nature of the crystals, seed beads are added to make the semi-circle firmer. Insert the seed bead, first with the right string and then the left, any color of your choice and then insert them accordingly into the middle parts of the crystals. This should make the dome firmer. 

In this lesson, we will be learning how to make the flap of the baseball cap. 12 pieces of the 6 mm crystals are needed to make this. The procedure is quite similar to the process involved in making the dome.

First, four pieces are used. Insert with the left string and interlace for the fourth crystal. Then insert the right string into one of the base crystals and repeat the process with the right string, using three crystals and keeping in mind that the third crystal should be interlaced. Then with the left strand, four crystals are used, with the fourth being interlaced. Same process is repeated with the right string.

To ensure its compactness, seed beads are added. Begin with the right string then move on to the left. Now tie the strings beneath the flap and the baseball cap is ready.

To add the key chain, you need the key ring, 6 mm and 8 mm jump ring. Open the jump ring with the plier and then insert it through the seed bead. Then add the small jump ring to the key ring and close it.

Now insert it into the big jump ring and close it. Your baseball cap key chain is ready.

In this video, we’ll be looking at the tools and materials needed to make the beaded bow ring.

For the tools, you’ll need a beading scissors, a ring mandrel which is used to size your ring bands and a round nose plier, which is optional. You’ll just use it when you can’t find your thread or when the thread is stuck.

The materials required are; a 2 mm round crystal, which will be used for the center piece, six pieces of bicons, which are diamond shaped, a beading thread of 0.3 mm thickness, about 6 inches long of this thread and your seed beads, preferably 15 O seed beads. 

This video covers the bow making process. About 2 or 3 inches of the beading thread is needed with about 6 pieces of the bicons.

The process is quite similar to that involved in the beaded baseball cap keychain. So, you interlace with one seed bead. Then to make the center piece, you add seed beads to avoid the thread from being seen. Pick up 2 seed beads with your right string and interlace with the third one. The third one this time, should be a 2 mm round crystal. Repeat the process with the left string.

Filling the holes to complete, wind the left thread around your finger and weave with 1 seed bead. Repeat the same process for the other side.

Now pass the thread through these two seed beads and tie them a couple of times, preferably at the top to prevent scratching when the band is attached.

Cut a piece of your thread, could be of the same length as that used in making the bow and pass it through the bicon, making the bicon hang in the middle. Then pick 6 or 4 beads, choice is yours, but make sure it’s even on both ends and weave with your thread, keeping in mind to interlace with the last bead. Repeat the process for the other string. You can do this a couple of times depending on the size of your finger. So, to be sure you can use your ring mandrel.

As you end the process, look for a central point and tie the strings together a couple of times. You can play with colors to suit your taste.
