I tell you viewers are in for a treat IF they decide to sign up for this video course.
Not only will viewers learn how to install an LED style light fixture, they will also learn how to remove an existing single pole standard light switch to then see how to install a wall dimmer switch.
VideoJoe has worked overtime creating this exclusive step by step instructional video course that viewers won't see anywhere else.
If you know anything about VideoJoe (& if you don't you soon will) he never knows what he's going to say next so viewers will learn more than what they think they will be getting when signing up for this course.
Hey thanks for signing up for this video course by the way!
VideoJoe will be discussing all kinds of aspects for his project for how to install an LED light fixture. You will learn lots of things on this Part 1 video.
Also I might advise to get your big bowl of popcorn ready because there are 12 more parts to go for this entire video course (after this one) but I know you're up for it or you wouldn't have signed up for this course, plus I wanted you to get your money's worth for sure!
I guess if you don't have any popcorn then your favorite cup of Joe will do, ahem.
Keep watching as the more you watch the more you'll learn.
On this video you will learn a few interesting things when it comes time for installing dimmer switches.
First off you will learn if the actual LED light fixture you have is dimmable or not as when LED light fixtures first came out not all LED light fixtures could be dimmed with a dimmer wall switch. Now it just might be that all LED light fixtures are dimmable now days? Not sure!
Not only will you learn about standard single pole dimmer wall switches, did you know they in fact have dimmer wall switches that are 3-way dimmers? They do.
Did you also know they have "lit" dimmer wall switches in that there will be a little light that you will see on the dimmer switch at night so you won't have to fish around & get your grubby hand prints on the wall every time you want to turn on a dimmer switch? They have those too.
As for 3-way switches VideoJoe will show & discuss with you what type of options you may have with your existing 3-way switches turning one of them into a dimmer 3-way switch that could dim those lights that are controlled on existing 3-way switches.
Did you also know that if you have two 3-way switches controlled for a few hallway lights for example, if you want to make the lights dimmable you would just have to remove one of the 3-way light switches & install just one dimmable light switch to make your lights dimmable? VideoJoe will give an example of that too.
As for 3-way light switches, here's a question for you. Do they make 4-way light switches? Hmmmm has anyone ever asked you that before or have you ever seen 4-way switches in a house before? Well VideoJoe will discuss that too.
You're in for a treat on this video so keep watching & keep learning.
You're in for some good stuff on this video. VideoJoe will be showing & discussing more for the dimmer switch install that he will be doing in some upcoming videos for you & he will also take a look at the existing wall junction box where he will be installing the new LED light fixture because he wants to make sure the power is off prior to starting his project, right?
VideoJoe will also discuss with you what he will be finding in the existing wall junction box as the existing ground wires are really really short. Did you know there is an electrical code that says how long the electrical wires should be extending out of any type of electrical junction or wall switch or light fixture box?
Hmmmm I wonder what VideoJoe will be doing with those short ground wires because of course most (if not all) light fixtures will have an attached ground wire that needs to be connected up to the current existing ground wire(s) in the wall junction box. But what happens if there are more than one ground wire in a junction box?
See all the stuff you will learn?!
VideoJoe will be looking closely at the existing wiring in the wall junction box to make a determination if the wires are long enough to connect up the new LED light fixture properly & safely & if the wires are too short he will show you what he will be doing.
Here's another question(s) for you. Would you know what size wire to add to make the short wires longer? Would you know how to install the wire nuts & to make what I call pigtails? Would you know how to check the existing circuit to see what size electrical breaker is connected up to this circuit & this wall outlet junction box?
These are the types of things you will be learning. Now if you don't know anything about electrical, that's ok because VideoJoe will be showing you step by step what he will be doing & why, all along this entire video course for how to install an LED light fixture as well as how to install a wall dimmer switch.
In fact I will wager most if not all of VideoJoe's video courses are designed for the DIY (do it yourself) beginner which means each video course is designed for the DIY beginner in mind for sure.
If at anytime you have questions about what you just saw on a video then I would suggest take a breath & re-watch that particular video segment so hopefully it makes more sense to you.
Also I would suggest reading the information I post under each video as I may mention something that is not mentioned or shown in each video.
Onward!
VideoJoe will now show you what he has in mind for making the short wires in the wall junction box longer.
He will be making "pigtails" to extend where all three existing wire nuts are now meaning...well you'll just have to watch the video!
Can you believe VideoJoe is just now ready to start installing the new LED light fixture? Sometimes you really have to check things out & take a look at your existing conditions before just muscling a new light fixture in.
It's a good thing you are watching this video as I think you are really learning some good new things that you can take for installing other light fixtures as well.
Now this particular LED light fixture requires that the mounting bracket be installed in such a way to where the new LED light fixture will be installed perfectly level & this can only be done by having this initial backing plate installed nice & level.
Most light fixtures won't need to be installed with the back mounting bracket needing to be installed just right but for these particular LED light fixtures, it's a must.
VideoJoe will now be showing you how to actually hold up the LED light fixture & connect up the wires then pushing all the wires into the box so you can then attach the LED light fixture to the mounting bracket you just installed. Now once you get everything installed, now is the time to stand back & see if the light fixture looks pretty level for when you attach the glass pieces, the glass pieces are nice & level looking.
Guess what? Chances are after you install the glass inserts, you may see that the left glass edge is just a bit low or the right glass panel is just a bit high. Now is the time you will need to make a decision. Should you remove the LED base so you can move the backing plate just a bit to the left or right so when you get done, the glass panels will be nice & flat.
Don't kid yourself...this is important as it will be your signature for how the LED light fixture will look forever more so here's your chance to make it right.
I have a secret for you. Did VideoJoe get it exactly right for when he installed the first LED light fixture that was already installed prior to this video course? Ah.......
Onward for the dimmer switch install! Ok now VideoJoe will be showing you all the first steps he will be doing in order to get ready for the wall dimmer switch install.
As you might have remembered VideoJoe will need to remove an existing wall dimmer switch in order to re-use that dimmer switch for this new location install seems as though VideoJoe will not need to wall dimmer switch in the guest room anymore...remember?
What a novel idea for not having to buy a new dimmer switch! could he have just left that existing wall dimmer switch in the guest room & purchased a new dimmer switch for this new LED light fixture install?
Yes...but then again it would have cost him the time to run to the hardware store as well as the cost of a new dimmer switch when he really didn't need one at all not to mention the gas for the car!.
He just saved apprx $20 for a new dimmer switch & now he can still jingle that money in his pocket. Does that answer the question?
VideoJoe is now ready to remove the existing wall dimmer switch that he will be using for the new LED light fixture install. You will learn a few new things for what a dimmer wall switch looks like as well as how a wall dimmer switch gets connected up to the wires as it's a bit different than connecting up a standard single pole light switch.
A few more wire nuts to get back into a wall junction box when installing a dimmer switch as well as the body of a dimmer wall switch is deeper than a standard single pole light switch so you have to contend with that too when getting ready to install one. Joy!!
Keep learning!
VideoJoe will now show you how to go about connecting up the wires for installing a dimmer wall switch.
You can do it!
VideoJoe will now be testing the wall dimmer switch to make sure the power was connected up properly as well to see once & for all will these particular LED light fixtures dim using a dimmer switch & how far will they dim & will the LED light fixtures look cool by dimming them for night time or not & how they look.
VideoJoe will be giving you some other information as well so keep that popcorn popping! We're not done yet!
Time for VideoJoe to carefully push all the wires back into the wall junction box making sure the wiring is pushed in just so as to accommodate the think bodied dimmer switch.
With a little patience you will be able to get the dimmer switch pushed in properly & secured with the mounting screws prior to installing the cover plate. Make sure not to tighten the cover plate down too tight or you could crack the cover plate & we don't want that.
Let's do it... We're almost done!
VideoJoe is almost done with the project but he still has a few more things he wants to share with you for installing LED light fixtures & dimmer wall switches.
Hope you have learned a lot on this video series & best wishes for installing an LED light fixture & dimmer wall switches. Just know not every house is set up the same so you may encounter slightly different variables but I would think you will still be able to install an LED light fixture & dimmer wall switches since you have now completed this video course!
Nice job!
I hope to see you again & thanks again for taking this course!
This video course is for how to install an LED style light fixture & will ALSO INCLUDE how to install a wall dimmer switch that will control an LED light fixture.
VideoJoe is pretty confident that the LED light fixture he will be installing will dim thereby he will also be removing the existing single pole standard light switch & will be installing a dimmer switch to see if in fact this LED style light fixture will accommodate a wall dimmer switch.
There used to be some wall sconces in this Condo but the Condo is 15 plus years old & in need of an upgrade so one of the upgrades will be to remove the existing wall sconces & install some LED light fixtures thus the need to install a wall dimmer switch so the new LED light fixtures can be dimmed just like how the initial wall sconces light output was configured years ago.
These particular LED light fixtures could be left un-dimmed by keeping the existing standard single pole light switch but there could be a need to dim these new LED light fixtures & it's always nice to think about options when removing existing light fixtures & installing new.
Viewers will learn how to install a new LED light fixture as well as learning how to remove an existing single pole standard light switch as well as learning how to install a wall switch dimmer. The dimmer wall switch that will be used was initial used for a light fixture in a guest bedroom but we decided to remove the existing light fixture & install a new ceiling fan that was also controlled by a hand held remote control thus the need for not needing or using the dimmer wall switch in the guest bedroom so what a perfect solution to remove the existing dimmer wall switch & relocating it to the location where the LED light fixtures are being installed!
Viewers will learn a lot on this video course & I felt that this video course should include both the install of an LED light fixture as well as the install of the dimmer switch since I think most viewers would appreciate the options they have if & when they decide to install a few LED light fixtures too so OK!
Viewers will learn all this & more as you never know what VideoJoe will say next on his videos so I think viewers will be in for a treat if they decide to sign up for this video course!
