VideoJoe just got done painting all these doors in a Condo is was rehabbing & now it's time to install the doors. You will learn all kinds of things for installing newly painted doors.
VideoJoe has opted not to reuse the existing door hardware since the Condo is over 15 plus years old & in need of a little TLC. You will see what VideoJoe has in mind for how he will be installing these doors along with new door hinges & new door handles & even new door stops too. I tell you these doors will look just like brand new when he gets done with them.
You're in luck as you will see VideoJoe do all kinds of work on these doors, if you choose to sign up for this video course & he hopes you do! You will be guided along step by step showing you everything VideoJoe will be doing in order to make these doors look like new again.
If you are a DIY (do it yourself) beginner...no problem. That's who this video course is for & you will feel right at home with VideoJoe showing you all that will be needed for installing these doors.
Sit back & enjoy...
First off I'd like to thank you for signing up for this video course! You will learn a lot for sure.
On this video VideoJoe will be showing you the door handles he has decided to install for these doors. You can pick most any type of door handle out there as they come in all shapes, sizes, & colors too.
VideoJoe likes the look of the paddle type door handles so those are the ones he has picked out for this Condo rehab. Take a look a round & you will see why they decided to use the nickel finish for the door handles as well as the new door hinges & the door stops will match too. This nickel finish color kind of makes the doors pop as the new white on the doors makes the doors look nice & fresh looking as well as the white door jambs & white baseboards.
You don't have to pick the nickel or brushed chrome look as there are a few other colors to choose from so before you go to the store, look at your existing conditions & see what you think the color of your door hardware should be so it kind of blends in with everything else so to speak.....having a general color scheme is a good thing.
On this video you will see how VideoJoe goes about installing the new door hinges to the doors. He always installs his door hinges this same way even when he is not on camera, as it's a good way for sure.
Now when you get ready to secure each door hinge onto the door, it's important to attach the hinge properly. You might laugh & say just screw the hinge on there & get going. But no. That's not the right way.
You will notice that one each door hinge location you will see the three or 4 screw holes to attach the door hinge. Look and make a determination which screw should be installed first because yes there is a difference since when you get done with installing & securing each door hinge, the hinge should be nice & tight fitting right up to the back groove area for where the hinge is notched into the edge of the door.
Deciding which firs & second screw to tighten up will put the hinge nice & tight to the back edge so even if the other screws aren't in the very exact middle of the hinge hole, the screws will sink in snug without moving the hinge away from the back edge of the notched area.
VideoJoe does this on each door hinge every time.
VideoJoe will now be showing you how to attach the new door hinges to the door jamb. Is VideoJoe going to be installing the door jamb hinges in the same like manner he just used for installing the door hinges to the actual door? Of course!
Step by step is how to install a door. YOU can do it!
It's now time to rehang the door & of course there is a right way & a wrong way to install a door back up to the door jamb.
I can't tell you how easy VideoJoe makes this look as I know for a fact he has installed many a door before!
You may think you know how to install a door back up to the door jamb but please don't miss this video as I think you will learn a few new things.
VideoJoe will now be working on a second door getting ready to install the door hinges to the door & the door jamb.
It's now all about repetition as VideoJoe will be securing the hinges the same way in which he did for the first door making sure each door hinge looks to be nice & snug up to the back side of the hinge notched areas.
Also take note how he sets the door on edge & leans carefully up against the wall so he can now work on the door hinges without anyone helping him hold the door. Trust me it's way easier to install the door hinges this way rather than keeping the door standing up tall wise, against a wall while you attempt to screw in the hinges.
You just can't get the hinges nice & secured at each location with the door standing all the way up against a wall & if you don't believe me then try it & let me know how you do. You also might mark up the wall & not get the screws in nice & flat without skipping the drill tip off the screw & right into the side edge of the door because it's easy to do if you do it this way...ugh!
You will have way more control with the drill if you use VideoJoe's method for installing the hinges to the door.
Keep learning!
You will now see how to install this next door back to the door jamb & of course VideoJoe will be using the same technique he showed you for installing the first door.
When re-installing your doors it's important to take a look at how well the door hangs & what the gaps look like when you have the door fully closed.
VideoJoe will be taking some additional time looking at the door gaps on this particular door because he thinks he might have to adjust the door to make it fit to the door jamb better so you will see how he does that.
Now before VideoJoe took the doors down to paint them he took the time to see if any of the doors were sagging &/or rubbing the door jamb or how each door looked when opening & closing the doors. If a door was sagging he would go the extra mile to fix the door sag prior to removing the door for painting.
The last thing you want to do is remove all your doors & paint the doors then find out later you have a few sagging doors that are now rubbing the door jamb edge marking up the door jamb as well as marking up the door edge you just painted...ugh! We don't want that happening.
VideoJoe will be making another video course where he will show what he did to all these Condo doors prior to removing the doors for painting to fix sagging doors as well as warped doors, etc.. Look for it.
On this video VideoJoe will show you what he does in order to fix a door gap that is too big. You won't generally have to fix a door this way as most doors will be sagging the opposite way rather than the way VideoJoe will be showing you to fix this particular door.
He's going to use screws to adjust the door gap & you won't see the screws that he will be installing when he gets done. The last thing he ever wants is to mark up new painted doors doing work that will fix sagged doors or door gaps such as what he will be fixing here.
The idea is when you get done with working on a sagging door repair, you don't want anyone to see any of the repairs you did. VideoJoe really does a good job with fixing doors making them hang that much better even 15 year old Condo doors such as this!
You need to remember that VideoJoe happens to think you can do all this work he is doing on these doors thus this video course. He will never make a video course he thinks you CAN'T do....even if you're a DIY (do it yourself) beginner. He has faith in you!
VideoJoe will now show you how to install a new door bumper. Even if you have installed a door bumper before, you might still want to check out this video as it's part of this video course for a reason.
It's also important to install the door bumpers right after you rehang the doors prior to install your existing door handles or better yet install some new door handles.
Years ago VideoJoe used to install the door handles first for all the doors then go back & install all the door stops at the end. The problem with this is if you are working in a construction site area, you may have other workers in the house at the same time walking through where you have just installed the door handles.
What the construction workers might not know is that you have not installed the door bumpers yet & all of a sudden you hear "oh no" where someone just opened a door kind of fast & the door knob just marked up the wall or put a little nice gouge in the freshly painted wall for instance...another UGH goes here!
Back to the door stops, did you know not all door stops are created equal? You go to the hardware store & you will find at least 3 to 4 different colors of door stops so what color should you get. The other thing is there are different types of door stops & VideoJoe likes the door stop style he is using here to show you on this video course.
Take a look at this video & I think you will learn some new things for sure...
VideoJoe will now show you how to install a door handle. Even if you have installed a door handle before, please watch this video! This video is actually a preview for installing the actual door handle assembly.
Not all door handles or door knobs are created equal & VideoJoe will give you his reasons for liking & using this particular style of door handle. When you go to the hardware store they will have all kinds of door handles & door knobs to choose from so hopefully you have something in mind you want to look at as well as the color.
Do you know the difference between a privacy door handle & a passage door handle? You will learn the difference on this video too.
Which types of door handles does VideoJoe really like? He happens to like the paddle handle style & it might surprise you that the paddle handles can be installed two different ways & is one way right & one way wrong? Well it depends...
VideoJoe just saved a bit of money on these door handles & he will explain how he saved some money too.
VideoJoe will now show you the first steps he will be going through prior to actually installing a new door handle.
This is an interesting learning video for sure. I hope you watch it.
On every door VideoJoe ever installs a door handle on, he goes through the motions making sure the door latch is pushed flat & flush to the edge of the door.
I can't tell you how many times a door latch will not sit flush with the edge of a door after securing the door latch. You will learn once & for all how to install a door latch the proper way.
Take your time & do it right. Even some door installers miss this important part of a door handle install...
You will now learn how to go about installing a door handle & making it look right after you get done installing it.
If you decide on installing a door handle that has the paddle handles, VideoJoe will show you what he does each time he installs a paddle door handle since after time, the paddle handles will have a tendency to sag.
Most door handles go in a similar way for how you will learn how to install a door handle but not always the exact same way depending on a door handle manufacturer. Each door handle unit will come with it's own directions & sometimes you might have to scan the directions just to make sure you install their handle correct.
Keep watching...more to learn.
Haha I had to watch this video again to see what all VideoJoe was talking about for just installing a door stop?!
I guess it's a small little thing to install a door stop but on this particular door there will be some extra thought process used for sure because the back side of the door doesn't necessarily fit right up to a flat wall as you soon will see.
What would you do in this instance? Make your decision & go for it.
VideoJoe just installed a paddle handle door assembly to a bathroom door & he wants you to take a look at it. When he installed the handle, the paddles were actually going the wrong way...or were they?
In any case did you know you can in fact decide which direction you want the paddle handles to go & does it even matter? That's what you will be deciding...
You're in luck as VideoJoe will be showing you one more door handle that needs to be installed! In fact he had this door handle installed after rehanging all the doors but then he noticed that the bottom panel of the door never got a second coat of paint...joy!
what do you suppose VideoJoe did? would you think he would just say "I'm not going to worry about it & I'll just let it go". Heaven forbid! He also noticed that the door had a little smudge mark on the edge too so since he still had to take the door between the Condo & the garage off to re-paint that door too, he thought he should take care of this other door & paint that bottom panel.
So now that the door has been fixed up & re-installed, it's time for him to re-install the brand new door handle, so you will see one more time how to install a door handle. Hopefully this repetition will just be a refresher for you so you see again how to install a door handle.
This now completes this video course!
I hope you have now learned some new things & gained the knowledge letting you know you CAN in fact install door hinges, door handles, & door stops. i have a feeling this is going to come in handy for you...
See you next time!

VideoJoe worked on a Condo rehab a few years ago & he made videos of all kinds of things he did fixing up the Condo. One of the things included taking down the existing doors so he could take them out to the garage & re-paint the doors (you will learn how to paint doors like new on a different video course).
The condo was 15 years old & the door hardware still looked pretty good but since the Condo was going to be painted too, VideoJoe thought the doors should really pop by installing different color door hinges as well as new door handles & of course new door stops as well. This gave him a chance to pick out a new door handle style as well as color to match what they were doing to the Condo.
Now that the doors are painted VideJoe will go through all the steps he does in order to re-install the doors. He will install new door hinges to the doors as well as all the door jambs. He will also rehang the doors in the proper door locations.
You will also see how new door handles get installed as well as making a decision for what type of door handle goes to each door location. Yes you will learn how to install nice new door stops too.
