  • How to install directional track light fixture/Part 117:08

Have you ever thought about installing a directional track light fixture before? What is a directional track light fixture anyway? Well you will learn a few things about a directional track light fixture & why you might want to install one or in this case, two.

Keep watching...your journey has just begun!

  • How to install directional track light fixture/Part 211:02

In this video you will learn how to check out your existing conditions getting ready to install the new directional track light fixture. In this case VideoJoe has already removed the existing track light strips prior & he didn't make a video of that since he thought he was going to be re-installing those same track light fixtures...wah wah!

This condo happens to be 15 years old & in need of an update so the painting of the entire Condo has already been done & quite frankly I am glad we are not re-installing the old tired looking track lighting strips, & upgrading to this new style directional track light fixture instead.

I will also be opening up the new directional track light fixture & seeing what all is included in the box & then start formulating a plan for how to go about installing this first directional track light fixture head.

Have I ever installed one of these exact light fixtures before? No...but that's not going to stop me from installing this directional track light fixture anyway & I want you there for all the fun to see if I can install it because guess what? If I can install it then that means you can install a directional track light fixture too.

    Let's do it!

  • How to install directional track light fixture/Part 310:28

Are you learning anything yet? In this video you will see how VideoJoe sets up the wiring up at the existing ceiling light fixture junction box as well as down at the directional track light fixture.

It's always a good idea to make sure you are all ready before going up on a ladder then finding out you're really not 100% ready to actually start installing your light fixture.

In this case too VideoJoe sees that the new mounting screws for the new light fixture are going to be too short seems as though the existing ceiling light fixture junction box is pushed back into the ceiling a bit meaning he will need to somehow find some new longer screws in order to mount the light fixture properly.

Trip to the hardware store? Haha never fear....VideoJoe always seems to come prepared.

  • How to install directional track light fixture/Part 415:48

VideoJoe will now be showing you how to go about installing & connecting up the wires to the new directional track light fixture. You won't want to miss this video since it's an important part of your learning experience for how to install a directional track light fixture!

You will see that after everything gets installed, it still won't be possible to install the directional track light fixture mounting base nice & tight up to the ceiling! Believe it or not there will need to be some modifications to be made up at the existing drywall at this particular ceiling light fixture junction box location. Why?!!

Are you saying all the work VideoJoe just did to get the directional track light fixture wired up to the ceiling all that has to now come back down? Ah...yes.

I have a bone to pick with the manufacturer of this directional track light fixture & as you saw Hampton Bay is the maker. Well they should have thought about the way they built the mounting bracket assembly & should have thought about it a bit longer before they mass produced this light fixture & here's why.

As you will see on the video it appears that the mounting bracket assembly is really made to fit a round ceiling light fixture junction box instead of the one that VideoJoe is installing to as the existing junction box is a standard rectangular type the ones you would see at most single gang duplex outlet locations on a wall for example.

Now in most cases a rectangular ceiling junction box can & could be used for most light fixture installs. Granted most light fixture ceiling junction boxes are of the round style generally but not all the time. Now the existing previous track lighting assembly that was installed for the last 15 years was able to be installed to a rectangular junction box & why the initial electrician installed rectangular boxes instead of round boxes is a mystery...

Other than the fact the initial electrician new that track lighting would be installed & lots of track lighting junction boxes an electrician would or could use a rectangular one since he really didn't care what was or could happen 15 years down the road...right?

Well in this case the new directional track light fixture was designed to be installed in a round ceiling junction box not a rectangular one. Do you think that stopped VideoJoe from getting it installed anyway?

    Keep watching!

  • How to install directional track light fixture/Part 56:25

Just as I thought. VideoJoe was able to figure out how to get the directional track light fixture installed in spite of it all & you will too.

    Keep watching!

  • How to install directional track light fixture/Part 618:33

On this video you will see what the directional track light fixture looks like once it has been installed up nice & tight to the ceiling. You will also see how to adjust the swivel type head since the light fixture head is directional so you can have options for where you direct the actual light.

You will also see how to set up for the second light fixture install & why we opted for the color of directional track light fixture we ended up getting & you will see a few other things you won't be expecting as well.

Now as for anytime you install something the first time, you will start getting the idea of how it should be installed so the next time you get ready to install another directional track light fixture for instance, you will have seen what things you had to do in order to get the first one installed so generally speaking the second light fixture will always seem to go up faster than the first one.

Don't get in a race though. I really don't care how fast you are with installing the second one. The main thing is the first one gets installed properly & up tight & everything looks to be as good as you can get it, that's the main thing to concentrate on.

Just take your time with the second one too that is if in fact you're planning on installing a second one. You want to install the second one just as good as you installed the first one. You are learning new things along the way & you will get better with each install moving forward from here.

You will start learning all kinds of things to then have you think you can install pretty much any type of light fixture as the thought process is similar & there is no doubt in my mind if YOU put your mind to it you can do it!

  • How to install directional track light fixture/Part 78:41

This last video you will learn how to finish up your directional track light fixture project as well as how to tilt the heads to the proper locations on the walls you have decided to light up.

Also you will be given some thoughts & ideas for what you might think about doing with your existing light switch you have since if it's not a dimmer type light switch, you might want to consider removing your existing light switch & installing a dimmer light switch then you can dim the directional track light fixture for ambience....ahhhhh!

That wraps it up for this time for this video course. I hope you enjoyed it & learned how to install a directional track light fixture & you now feel confident knowing you can install one now too!

Thanks so much for joining me!

    See you next time...

Requirements

  • No requirements or experience needed. Students can be a DIY (do it yourself) beginner & that's ok!

Description

This video course will show students how to install a directional track light fixture. A directional type track light fixture is similar to a track light strip set up...only different. A standard type track light strip is a metal strip that gets installed then a track light head gets attached to the metal strip & you can add two or three heads to the track light metal strip.

The strip is then attached & connected to a ceiling light fixture junction box to accept the needed power to run the track light strip. What I will be showing in the video series is a separate swivel head that gets directly connected & attached to a light fixture ceiling junction box...with no track light strip.

This directional track light fixture may be the only thing you might need for your project if in fact you don't want to see a metal strip up there with one head attached to it, for your purposes. I tell you this directional track light fixture I will be installing, I think you will like it & will also want to see how to install a directional track light fixture as this particular type of light fixture gets installed differently than a standard track light strip.

Besides, a student might not even know how to install a light fixture at all & may be afraid of electrical projects since they might never have worked on electrical projects before. I'm here to say...hog wash, as I believe any average Joe can install a directional track light fixture & that's why I created this video course that will show viewers just that.

In fact viewers will see not one directional track light fixture get installed since I will be needing to install two directional track light fixtures & viewers will see a portion of the second directional track light fixture get installed as well as to know how to finish up a project & check the power & how to adjust the swivel head etc..

I will also show viewers what they might want to do to the existing light switch if in fact the light switch is a standard single pole light switch & I think viewers will appreciate the added information if they decide to install a directional track light fixture.

This course will give the viewer the confidence in knowing hey they can install a directional track light fixture too!
