These doors were in need of being repainted & most of the door hardware replaced in order for the bifold doors to look like new again. You will see all the VideoJoe will be doing on this bifold door project & I must say the doors looked like new after he worked on them & installed them.

You will learn once & for all how to fix your bifold door unit or fix your bifold door set for all the things that go wrong on a bifold door & how to go about fixing & repairing your bifold doors.

Hope to see you sign up!

  • How to install bifold door set made easy/Part 112:29

Hey thanks for signing up for this course by the way!

VideoJoe will be showing you a few things that you need to be aware of when installing a bifold door or a bifold door set. I'm calling a bifold door set to be 2 different bifold doors for a total of 4 bifold door panels per se.

In any case you will need to pay attention to the size of the diameter of the top wheels since they carry two different diameters at most hardware stores so don't run off to the hardware store thinking you know what to get as your top wheels might be different than the ones you end up getting at the store.

VideoJoe is going to be replacing the door knobs on this bifold door set too as most bifold doors will come with a generic set of door knobs either white plastic or wood unstained & then you would have to paint them. I would suggest looking at your surrounding area for color wise & look at the hardware store & see if you can get a nice pre-finished set of door knobs.

In VideoJoe's case he found some nice sparkly ones at the store he will be installing.

  • How to install bifold door set made easy/Part 29:19

These bifold doors were just painted so VideoJoe has previously taken the doors down then removed the top & bottom hardware to each door as the top wheels were sticking & one was bent & the bottom feet he wanted to install new ones anyway so everything came off then he took the bifold doors down to the garage then sanded & repainted them & they look like new I must say.

So of course VideoJoe went down to the hardware store & picked up a new bifold door hardware set for two sets of single bifold doors. Now he needs to install the new top wheels & bottom feet to each bifold door unit.

Now is there always a right & wrong to install most anything? Yes! You first will need to decide which is the top & bottom for each bifold door & hopefully you already know this since you marked the top of each bifold door unit before you took them down to repaint...right?

Well if you didn't now is the time to figure this out because when you first look at the top & bottom of each set of bifold doors you will see that there are two holes at the top & two holes at the bottom. You don't want to put the top wheels & the bottom feet in the wrong holes since it's very difficult to remove the top wheels & the bottom feet since each one has a plastic holder that fits snug into the wood & really tricky to remove.

In VideoJoe's case he forgot to measure the overall height of each bifold door set with the bottom feet on before he removed the bottom feet because the bottom foot piece is attached to a long threaded rod where you can screw it in or unscrew it depending on how tall you want your bifold door unit because once you install the bifold door back to the top track & the bottom floor bracket you will want the top of the door high enough so you don't have a big gap between the top of the door & the bottom edge of the door header trim on the door jamb.

Same thing goes for the bottom of the bifold door since you don't want the door to rub on your carpet for instance so there is a happy medium for adjusting the bottom foot on the bifold door for sure for an overall height. Now if you are installing the entire bifold door unit from scratch including installing a door jamb & door casing for example, you will want to get this measurement pretty close. The main thing is you don't want to cut the new doors down too much & I'd rather see the doors too long than too short since once you install first time you could always remove & cut down the total length of the bifold doors a bit if need be.

In VideoJoe's instance he just has to hope that whoever installed the bifold doors new 15 years ago cut the door length properly so he won't have to!

Ok so VideoJoe will be taking some measurements of the overall height of the existing door unit from the bottom floor mount bracket on up to where the bifold door will clip in to the top door track. Sounds easy enough. LOL

  • How to install bifold door set made easy/Part 311:42

VideoJoe will now install the first bifold door unit for half of the overall opening knowing that he may have to take the bifold door unit down to make some slight adjustments to the overall door height but you have to start somewhere so this is where to start.

If you have never installed a bifold door unit before just know it will take a few minutes for you to figure out how to get the door installed properly & clipped into the top little hold on the slide bracket up at the top of the door track & then to fit the bottom door foot onto the bottom floor bracket.

Once you know how a bifold door hardware works etc. you will have a pretty good idea for what you will need to do in order to get the first door back up there & standing. Now it's all about taking some measurements & making the door look right prior to installing the 2nd bifold door unit.

Hole your mouth just right & have a little patience for sure. Watch this video again if need be as well as the preview video & Part 1 video so you get the full understanding for how a bifold door works.

By the way watch how VideoJoe measures so he doesn't have to use a level even seems as though whoever installed the initial door jamb unit used a level & my guess is the door jamb will still probably be pretty plumb meaning level but vertical.

  • How to install bifold door set made easy/Part 49:56

VideoJoe will now install the 2nd bifold door unit making some calculations height wise from when he installed the first bifold door unit. He will now get the bifold door unit stood up & clicked into the top little hole in the top sliding bracket in the top door track & will also go down to the bottom of the bifold door & fit the bottom foot into the floor bracket.

It's important to look at the floor bracket when you are installing it & so you notice the little ridges in there that will marry up to the bottom foot piece at that goes in the bottom of the bifold door so you will know when the bottom foot is attached into the floor bracket properly then knowing to lift the door up to then reposition the door to the left or right to then wedge back down into the floor bracket. See?

It takes a little doing but the only way for you to learn is to get in there & start working on your new bifold doors or your old bifold doors & you will soon start seeing what will need to be done in order to get your bifold doors working like new.

  • How to install bifold door set made easy/Part 510:35

Now that VideoJoe has both doors up it's now time to closely look at the bifold door units to see how they might be lining up to now see what will need to be done in order to get the bifold doors looking like they were just installed for the first time (which was over 15 years ago!).

Now over time bifold doors have a tendency to get out of whack for left to right & top to bottom & hardware could have shifted & wheels gummed up to where now a bifold door could really get out of position.

VideoJoe now sees that the existing top slide clip to the first door he installed needs to be adjusted & yes those top slide clips can move. There's a set screw up there that you have to loosen up to then slide the clip to the right or left just a bit then tightened back down with the set screw. Nowe look at your door again to see if you need to slightly move the top slide bracket again or not. Yes you might have to do that to both sets of double doors to make them look right but VideoJoe will do one step at a time working on just one door to make it look like how he wants before adjusting the other bifold door unit.

Don't give up & think that installing bifold doors is too hard for you to learn because I say "hog wash"! You can do it!

Keep watching & keep learning. Hey VideoJoe is just an average Joe & the first time he ever worked on a bifold door he had the same questions & now it's no big deal. You'll get there too.

  • How to install bifold door set made easy/Part 610:00

Now is VideoJoe's chance to dial in the entire bifold door set checking to see what type of gap he wants to see between both bifold door units when closing as well as checking to see if both bifold door units look to be the same height & to see how the height looks all along the top trim edge from left to right as well as hey how does the bottom edge of the bifold door set look down against the carpet or flooring edge.

Does the bottom edge look level with enough gap & does the top of the bifold doors look level from left to right with the same margin of gap up there next to the door jamb trim too. Lots to look at & take your time & measure & see what needs to be done because if everything doesn't match up then you still have some more work to do in order to make everything look like these bifold doors were just installed.

Now is not the time to say "it's good enough, I'm not working on them anymore". No. Don't say that. The way your total project ends up looking for these bifold doors & how they run on the top rail & how they line up together at the bottom will be your signature for this project every time you walk by these doors or every time someone else walks by these doors or uses these doors. If the bifold doors are running & looking bad now think what they are going to look like a few months from now & every time they close they don't close together right or both doors hit every time they close you & anyone else will be reminded of that from here on out. Is that what you want? I wouldn't.

Now's your chance to keep working on these bifold doors to the best of your ability.

It's also important to get the bottom closing brackets installed down low towards the bottom backside of both bifold doors so when the doors close together they will look nice & flat & together looking at the bottom when you close the doors. In VideoJoe's case because the stacked washer/dryer unit have already been installed, guess what he will have to do? Yes....take down the one bifold door unit so he can then install the bottom clip to it then re-install the bifold door on that side for I think the fourth time!

I'm not seeing him complain about it either. It's just something he has to do in order to make the bifold door set look right when he calls everything good at the end of the project. sure he could have said he was just going to forget about installing those bottom clips to the back side of the bifold door set & say it's good enough, right?

But he knows better than that & you better of that too now. You're learning!

  • How to install bifold door set made easy/Part 76:51

Now this is the part where video Joe thinks he is done he will now do a once over checking everything out to see if in fact he is happy with how everything to the bifold door set looks & how it's turning out.

He will then have to make a decision. Does he need to tweak anything one last time or is he happy with how the bifold doors are looking thus far.

Take time with your project & take pride with your work as to how you leave things when you say you're done.

  • How to isntall bifold door set made easy/Part 87:52

VideoJoe will now be installing the new door knobs & showing you how to open &* close the bifold doors properly as just opening & closing the bifold door set there is always a right & wrong way. If you try to close the doors the wrong way or someone else in the house does, then the bifold doors will eventually quickly get out of whack & you don't want that.

Now would be a good time telling & showing everyone in the household how to operate the bifold door set properly & improperly.

As for the door knob machine screw VideoJoe had to cut it three different times & what a pain that is. If you find the package comes with just short screws you might want to locate the exact length you think will work, at the hardware store & in VideoJoe's case he found one length just a hair too short & another length just a hair too long. JOY! Out came the pair of pliers or vise grips & a firm hand & sharp hacksaw blade & a block of wood comes in handy too! Take your time & you'll get it!

Now stand back & take a look at VideoJoe's handy work. How does the bifold door set install look? Does it look like it was just installed? That's what you could do too with your bifold doors...with a little know how.

Installing a bifold door set is easy...when you know how. Now you know how.

Hey this video course is now over.

    Thanks for sticking with it!

    See you next time...
