VideoJoe is in the process of re-installing a n existing light fixture he previously removed because he was getting ready to paint this bathroom but then the situation changed & he needed to get everything put back together so they could move in & then while he is living here he will then have to paint the bathroom once they were moved in...Joy!

Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.

Have you ever installed the glass covers on a bathroom light fixture only to have one of the glass covers crack or break because you screwed in one of the little screws in too far?

Bathroom light fixtures are called Vanity light fixtures & most of these types of light fixtures will be cheap enough for you to part with some of your hard earned money since you know you will be the one to install them.

This particular light fixture VideoJoe is installing, do you think he's ever installed one of these exact light fixtures before? No...but that's not going to stop him from installing this bathroom light fixture either. You can do the same.

It's important to always connect up the ground wire too. See how he will attach the ground wire so the ground wire will help hold up the light fixture so he can connect up all the wires to the wire nuts?

I thought that was pretty tricky. Of course if you have a second person helping you then they can just hold the light fixture while you are connecting up the wire nuts but VideoJoe always likes to do as much DIY (do it yourself) by himself so he can show you that if he can do it (an average Joe) then you can do it too.

If you come across some things on a new bathroom light fixture that you aren't sure about, rest easy as all bathroom light fixtures will come with directions so read those directions if need be.

Step back & take a deep breath & attempt to install the light fixture. If you end up thinking you need to do something slightly different then go back & spend the time to make it right in your eyes.

Can you believe how the existing wall conditions look for this particular bathroom light fixture install? The best way to do things is to install a cutin box so the wire in the wall will be in an actual junction box.

Thus the reason VideoJoe felt he should go the extra mile to show you what a cutin box is & how to go about installing one so he decided he should include this cutin box install in with this video course & the added value~!

You won't always encounter wires going into a wall like this & the previous person who installed the old light fixture decided to install the bathroom light fixture without using a junction box...for one reason or the other.

Installing a cutin junction box will be the safest way to install the wiring & for how to install a bathroom light fixture or any other light fixture for that matter. If you're going to do something you might as well do it right...right?

This Condo was apprx. 15 years old at the time & believe it or not this hole in the wall should not be there!

That's why VideoJoe wanted to show you how to install a cutin light fixture junction box. Is VideoJoe really going to spend the extra time to actually cut in & install this cutin light fixture junction box? Of course!

You've really got to be careful & spend some time thinking about how you are going to cut in & install a cutin junction box. If you're not careful you could cut the hole in the wall too big so take your time & have a little patience.

I know you can do it!

Are you prepared for your project? Spend some time to set up cutting out the drywall & clean up when you get done. The sign of good workmanship...

Sometimes you have to visualize how things are working back behind the drywall. That's why you need to spend the time checking out the type of cutin box you will be installing because of course there is more than one kind.

Now are all new style bathroom light fixtures the LED type? Not sure but lots of them are & they pretty much get installed the similar way a standard previous style bathroom light fixtures get installed.

Ha is VideoJoe a professional electrician? No...& you don't need to be one either. Just keep following along with these videos where VideoJoe will show you the things you will need to know for installing bathroom light fixtures.

News flash...are all houses wired the very same way? No...the power for this particular light fixture the main power goes to a light switch first! Then from the light switch junction box there is a wire going up tot he light fixture thus you only see 3 wires up in the junction box...a bare ground wire, a white neutral wire, a black hot wire.

VideoJoe will be showing you how to wire up the light fixture with the wiring set up this way. Now in some cases if your house is old &/or depending on how the electrician decided to wire the house...in some instances the main power for a bathroom light fixture (or other light fixtures) could have the main power feed going up directly to a light fixture first. Then from there, a set of wires will go down to the light switch where there may not be any main power to the light switch location first. In that case there could be 2 or 3 sets of wires up behind a light fixture & that would mean you should turn the main breaker off to the light fixture before working on it. Please make a note of this!

VideoJoe always likes to check out a new bathroom light fixture before he actually installs it. Just because he has installed many bathroom light fixtures not all light fixtures are created the same & not all wiring set ups are created equal either.

Take a few minutes unboxing everything & look at the directions & check out the wiring too prior to installing the light fixture.

VideoJoe has all the luck. On two different light fixtures he had issues with damaged glass pieces. Just keep moving forward.

If you need to go back to the store then that's what you will need to do. Come to think of it if you were paying a professional electrician per hour what do you think he would have to do?!!

It's a good thing you are learning all this cool stuff since you will be saving your money for sure...

If you don't have a level...you could do it this way. Most of the time your existing ceilings will be level...not all the time though depending on how old your home is.

VideoJoe still likes to check things out with a level though.

Will all bathroom light fixtures get installed this very same way for the backing piece? No. Sometimes you may need to install some plastic wall anchors. It's always a good idea to have some plastic anchors since you never know when you may need them.

In this case VideoJoe will be securing the wall backing bracket a different way seems as though on down the road he will be removing this very same light fixture in order to paint the bathroom. Really?

At that point he may decide to install some additional plastic anchors...

You decide...

Have some wire strippers ready because you will always have a need for them for installing bathroom light fixtures & beyond...

What a great idea for securing the light fixture so you can install it on your own without calling someone to help you hold up the light fixture for you. VideoJoe wants to show you if he can install a bathroom light fixture on his own then so can you.

Has VideoJoe ever installed a bathroom light fixture exactly like this one? No...but that's not going to stop him from installing this one either.

Check your existing conditions & do some measurements to decide apprx. what type of length light fixture you may need if they have two different choices available when you go to the store.

Lots of times at the hardware store they might have a display that shows the actual bathroom light fixtures hanging on a wall. You might want to check that out since it could change your mind for which light fixture to actually get.

Sometimes you still might not know exactly until you get home & install one. At that point if you don't like it then you have some decisions to make...do you remove the light fixture you just installed & package it back up to return to the store to get the other one you were thinking about, or not.

You get to decide..

Can you believe when VideoJoe gets done installing this bathroom light fixture he will still need to remove it before he paints this bathroom? That's what he likes to do...remove light fixtures before painting for a few good reasons you will find out before completing this video course.

What would you do if you needed to paint a bathroom? Paint around the existing light fixture or remove it then paint then re-install light fixture when you are done painting?

I guess you get to decide that too...

VideoJoe will now be removing this brand new light fixture prior to painting this bathroom. Ugh.

Not all bathroom light fixture bases are created equal. The one you end up getting I know you will be able to figure out how to install your bathroom light fixture. 

There will be no one to show you or explain to you how to go about removing your old bathroom light fixture to then install your new bathroom light fixture. Once you finish this video course you will have the knowledge & confidence to know that you can do it & if you have to modify the existing backing light fixture bracket to install some plastic anchors then do it.

Now doesn't this new bathroom light fixture look really good now that the bathroom has been painted? It almost looks like this bathroom is in a brand new Condo or house!
