How to give a Fantastic Massage

You are about to embark on a unique experience that will enable you to give a memorable massage to those you love.  Or, give a professional, effective and fantastic massage to a paying client.  So lets get excited and begin!

The first thing you need to know is exactly what massage does and all the reasons you didn't know, that makes a great massage one of the best skills to learn.

Here are some simple tips that you can practice that give you the secret to giving you and your client the confidence, assurance and safety you need to make your massages magnificent.  If your client is relaxed and you feel confident, 70% of your job is already done!

This is another secret you can practice that puts you in another league amongst the rest.  Know this simple skill and you are already a success!

This is a basic guide on the major muscle groups so you know where, and where not to apply your massage strokes to give the perfect massage.  You will learn these strokes in the next set of videos.

Before you begin, you need to understand some basic principles behind establishing a routine to your massage  With this simple guideline you will have an immediate basis for creating flow, safety and confidence in everything you do.  Another fundamental secret to give you the extra edge. 

Giving a memorable soothing massage starts with the strokes and your technique.  So, its important to understand the primary strokes and how to use them when giving a massage.

When you think of effleurage, you think of smooth gliding strokes that will induce peace and relaxation for your client, and this is the why we use this stroke at the beginning and end of every massage.

The next stroke is called Pettrisage.  The kneading and muscle movement stroke.  Use your hands and forearms to move your clients to the next level of relaxation as you apply this stroke slowly and gradually apply the pressure.

Slow and steady wins the race, the deeper you go the slower the pace.  With two thumbs or your forearm, this move is sure to put your clients' muscles back in place.  Separate the fibres and improve the circulation deep within the muscle fibres using muscle stripping.

Compression is a massage stroke you can use at the beginning or end of each sequence on each body part.  It is your 'hello' or 'goodbye' to muscles that are being worked on.

Now that you know the 4 basic massage strokes, we are now going to see how they are applied to give your clients a great massage.  For this demonstration we starting with our client face up so we can massage the head without getting oil in the clients' hair.  Its these small details which will make your massage fantastic!

We are now going to cover a general sequence for the arms.  Not an easy area to work on, but once you know how, you will have the confidence to make it look easy.

This is the largest and easiest area to work on.  You may like to start here in your massage sequence - in this example, it is the last area we work on before we turn the client over.

Now your client will feel wonderfully relaxed and their muscles will sink deeper into a softer more pliable state.  Much easier for you to enhance their experience and move into the next level of bliss.

Everyone loves a good back massage, and if you learn nothing else you will be remembered for your new found skills in knowing just how to do it right.

One of the most important and most overlooked aspects of giving a massage, is timing.  Here we give a general guideline as to how to determine what you do for each client as well as a timed full body massage as a demonstration on how to divide each body part.

Now that you have learned how to fulfil your clients needs , its time to consider your own.  Knowing some simple self-care techniques will ensure you all get to enjoy your new found skills on an ongoing bassis.
