This demonstration is a section from a detailed pen and ink wash of Venice before the actual wash.

This is from a detailed drawing of Elvet Bridge just across from Durham Cathedral. It was a more detailed pen and ink and we only floated pale colours in to resemble an old etching.

Just keep drawing in with the pen, keep it loose and quirky, don't worry if you make a mistake just adjust the line, it all adds to the charm.

First wash is the sky followed by the ground, try to leave white paper around the edges to create a vignette.

Requirements

The only materials you will need for this course is a cheap waterproof black pen, some white paper, and a few watercolours with a couple of brushes.

Description

The main lesson in this course will be a full length painting of Nice drawn with Pen and Ink and then watercolour washes ran in to complete the painting. I will also show you some smaller demonstrations of similar paintings with more detailed drawing. I will show you how to paint simple figures in landscapes that are quick but effective. Extra will be a downloadable brochure on watercolours and suppliers.
