After taking udemy seriously in less then a year my income has jumped to over $21,000 total and making $2500 a month plus I launched a membership site earning re-urcurring money.
I have been teaching online courses for over a year and in the last 6 months I started getting serious about it and already making over $2500 a month. I want to help other instructors do the same and more!

In this lecture I share how I got started including the books I read that inspired me, the courses I took to learn how to teach online courses.
The biggest breakthrough I had was just believing that I could sell my knowledge specifically with online courses.
a book is a great place to start but why stop there when you can sell the same info like a course for 10x the amount.
a course title is super important and one of the major factors a student uses to decide whether to take your course or not.
Uploading a test video as soon as possible to find out if your quality of audio, video and lighting is properly setup is super important.
You have knowledge, experiences that people want to know and are willing to pay money for it. You just have to make a decision on what it is you are going to start teaching.
Your promo video is the first thing people see and you only get one chance to make a first great impression. Go all out on your promo video with quality, clarity, and enthusiasm.
By sharing a story, showing social proof that you are an authority or that you've interviewed others will put you in an authority position. Just by publishing a piece of content and putting it out there begins to build your authority on a subject.
This picture is my current studio setup with Amazon affiliate links to the products I"m using:

BumbleBee Microphone: http://amzn.to/1LM9vdE
You can get away with the video not looking as good but NOT audio. Investing in a great microphone and positioning it right with a pop filter is a must when creating your online course.
Teaching students by recording your screen using Quick Time Player or Camtasia is a powerful teaching method and possibly my favorite way to train students.
Currently Udemy requires all videos be in at least 720 HD quality whether that's screen capture or direct to camera with you speaking.
Lighting makes a big difference in the way your videos look when doing direct to camera. It's worth investing in some good lighting for your studio when your ready.
The less distractions the better. It's all about building your brand here at the same time staying within budget until you've started making some money.
The more energy and passion you put into your lectures with enthusiasm in your own style will be contagious to your students.
Turn off all distractions including email and your phone while recording lectures. You must focus on what your teaching because students will be able to tell if your not present.
Be clear in what your teaching, avoid ums, uhs, and don't drag the lecture on just for the sake of talking. Remember to end the lecture with
Your tone of voice while teaching can be used to engage students and get your point across.
There's no point in dragging your lectures out longer. If you can teach effectively so the student understands in a shorter period of time then do it.
Learn how to giveaway free coupons to your courses and why this is important
In the past few years Udemy has done major marketing promotions leading up to Black Friday. This is a huge opportunity for instructors to have their courses featured in these promotions.
Udemy currently does a huge promotion push during New Years.
As an instructor on Udemy you are leaving a lot of money on the table by not strategically using your 2 promotional announcements and 4 Educational announcements each month. I have made over $1000 with one promotional announcement in a 48 hour period.
Having more students shows social proof and makes your course more legit.

There are over a billion people logged into Facebook every day and using ads to promote your courses is currently one of the ways to reach them.
http://wwwreddit.com is another avenue where you can narrow your target audience and promote your course.
Upload a few of your best lectures to Youtube to get more traffic to your courses.
Podcasting is another avenue to market your brand as well as bring more traffic and awareness to your courses.
You need to base a students value over a lifetime and not just 1 or 2 years. Some customers/students will become raging fans that will buy everything you put out.
Udemy allows any student to refund your course within 30 days of enrolling.
I use multiple coupons to track my promotions and see where my traffic is coming from.
