Welcome to Coloring the Undead. In this course I will walk you through my process of coloring three types of horror characters - ghosts, demons, and zombies or otherwise green-skinned people.
You will need three coloring pages to play along with me. All three are in the Resources section of this lecture. Print them out and color along with me.
I will be working on grey toned paper, using white charcoal, Black Widow wax colored pencils, and I will use a white gel pen and a black marker for minor details.
I highly recommend that you use materials as closely matched to mine as possible for best results.
Have fun, and feel free to send me direct messages with any questions.
We're starting the Ghost Bride page with white charcoal on grey toned paper.
Now that the face is primed with white charcoal, let's add our first color. But which color, and how to decide where to add it?
A little bruising around the eyes is just what the doctor ordered for this ghost girl.
Let's examine deeper what really makes a character look creepy.
We need to keep her pale. What's the secret?
So, how do you color the eyes of a ghost? Do ghosts even have eyes?
Let's talk about her veil a bit.
We start a new character and a new adventure. This is my Japanese demon girl. How is she different from Ghost Bride, and how is her primer different.
How to pick the right first color for your demon girl.
In this course, you will work with three coloring pages that I drew just for this occasion. You will learn how to color three types of undead characters. Together we will create a pale ghost bride, a strange Japanese water demon, and the green-skinned bride of Frankenstein.
After completing this course, you'll be able to apply what you learned to all sorts of creepy and horror-style coloring by any artist.
This is one of my shortest courses and also one that's very light on theory and technicality. However, if you enjoy my teaching style, please consider taking one of my longer, newer, and more involved courses, like Color Theory, How to Color Gemstones, and many others.
I am a life-long artist, illustrator, author, tattooist, instructor, and YouTuber, and I'm here to share all of my professional secrets with you, and to guide you every step of the way. Remember that you can always reach out to me privately at any point during your learning journey, or post a public question in the Q&A section.
Please watch the lectures in order, and learn not just which tools to use but why, and the theory behind what makes certain effects look spooky. My goal is to teach you how to make your own artistic decisions. I will teach you not just how I color, but also how I think.
