Learn a practical, step-by-step guide to building a single storey brick veneer dwelling predominantly in Australia, with a focus on sequencing trades, site management, and crew leadership.
Navigate the site management sequence—from site inspections to footing pours—document damage and boundary details, plan trenches and underfloor services, and ensure proper curing.
Learn site setup for framing, underground services, rubble up, preload bricks, and steel framing; coordinate timber delivery with daily stand-ups and thorough frame checks for accuracy.
Learn roofing and cladding basics, including first fix plumbing, brickwork, eaves, and material delivery. Ensure site space for deliveries, flashing and fascia checks, and finishing with gutters and termite treatment.
Coordinate first fix services—electrical, data, air conditioning, ducted vacuum, and gas fireplace—before plasterboard linings, ensure external cladding is complete, and uphold site safety to prevent copper theft.
Coordinate site management by sequencing waterproofing, tiling, second fix carpentry, cut outs, pre-paint, joinery, tiling, painting, silicon, then electrical and plumbing, culminating in floor coverings.
Walk through and hand over the end-stage build, marking defects with color-coded tape, coordinating appliance installs and final cleaning, and briefing clients on maintenance period and sign-off.
Learn productivity and leadership for site management: master one thing, next-action lists, 45-minute sprints, circadian rhythm, and ownership, trust, and empathy to prevent burnout.
This course is designed for anyone who is either building a new home, owner-builder or anyone who is looking to become a site supervisor/manager. We will go through the sequence of trades and when to schedule each trade in. There are also a heap of professional tips and tricks to help you minimise costly mistakes when building a new home. It is a practical step by step guide on how to build a home through the eyes of a site supervisor. The course is made up of 6 modules, each reflecting a major stage of the building process. Module 1 will go through the process of things to look for before even starting site such as site inspections and making a checklist of curve ball items that can cause costly issues if not noted early on in the project. It will then move on to site works and footings. Module 2 will go through site set up and framing. In module 3 we will go through the sequence of external cladding and roofing. Module 4 will go through 1st fix services such as electrical, plumbing and gas and finish up at internal linings. In module 5 we will go through the sequence of the finishing trades and answer questions such as what a pre-paint is and when do we measure shower-screens and mirrors? Module 6 is all about the walk-through and handover process. Our bonus module will have details on how to lead a team of sub-contractors and tips and tricks on how to get the most out of our day with productivity hacks.
This course was developed because there is a lack of useful practical courses in regards to the sequence of trades and what to check before and after they have done their job.
