Mika Tesfaye

Food Farmacy Director, Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs’ Office

Thesis title: More Than Your Nutrition 101: Exploring Systemic Causes of Childhood Obesity

In collaboration with Alameda County and the Deputy Sheriffs' Activities League, I am working to advance their Community Capitals Policing Framework (CCPF) to progress Food as Medicine by supporting local farmers, initiating Food Recovery efforts across the county with local schools, wholesale grocery stores, and restaurants while creating a local food economy by managing a small incubation kitchen for small business caterers and entrepreneurs.

Introducing Mika Tesfaye

ALL IN is excited to welcome Mika Tesfaye to the team as the new Food Hub Director with DSAL.

Ms. Tesfaye will work with DSAL to progress the community capitals policing work through the Food as Medicine movement. By leading new efforts for food recovery, supporting the Food as Rx presence within local clinics, as well as supporting independent caterers and small business owners showcase their talents by utilizing the newly renovated Food Hub kitchen, her goal is to help communities thrive.

Before starting this position, Ms. Tesfaye worked as a Patient/Retail Services Manager at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland for 3 1/2 years. During that time she managed to not only oversee 2,000 meals daily feed clients, patients and families, but she piloted a food recovery program in collaboration with LA & SF Specialty, while constructing a food referral process in EPIC which aimed to link patients to local food farmacies by collaborating with UCSF BCHO Community Department of Health.

Mika Tesfaye is a wife, and mother of two and enjoys spending time with her family when she's not working. She is originally from Indianapolis, IN and she loves hosting and you can probably find her hosting a party at her place anytime to all who is welcomed!
