This video is a piece of history and brings the past to life!

It preserves the teachings of a highly respected Okinawan Grand Master whose legacy was to bring Karate from a bygone age into the modern era.

Additionally, the video includes all the Kata of the style and rare footage of some of Soken Sensei's top students performing in Okinawa in the 1960´s and much more!

Hohan Soken was an important karate master from Okinawa. He was born in 1889 and was a direct student of Nabe Matsumura, a descendant of the famous Sokon Matsumura.

Soken practiced and taught the Shōrin-Ryu style, particularly a lineage later known as Matsumura Seito.

In his youth, he learned traditional kata and martial arts techniques passed down through his family. During the 1920s, he lived for a time in Argentina, where he also taught karate.

After returning to Okinawa, he continued his life’s work as a teacher.

Hohan Soken was known for his deep knowledge of kata and his strong emphasis on bunkai, the practical application of techniques.

He died in 1982, but his influence on traditional karate remains strong today.

The footage was compiled from old historical 8mm film reels and re-edited with new audio.

Although the video quality is very poor, it offers historians a fascinating journey back to the early days of Karate in Okinawa.
