The purpose of this training is to provide a basic understanding of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ("HIPAA"). This presentation describes the statutory and regulatory background and purpose of HIPAA and provides a general summary of the principles and key provisions of the Privacy and Security Rule. The material in this training program is designed for anyone who may have access to protected health information.

Instructor
M. Scott Koller is an attorney in the Los Angeles office of Baker Hostetler. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Koller was an associate at the law firm of DLA Piper and InfoLaw Group. Before his law firm experience, he developed a background in information technology when he founded System Operation Services, an IT consulting firm. Later, Mr. Koller became the Director of Pre-Funding Operations at Technology Venture Alliance, an early stage venture capital firm. Today, Mr. Koller focuses on a broad range of complex civil litigation, including commercial, privacy, data security and healthcare litigation.
