Starting today, you will learn a tremendous amount that will help you achieve healthier skin which is ultimately a reflection of a healthy gut. You’ve probably seen multiple doctors and dermatologists who just prescribes you steroid creams after steroid creams and you haven’t found real solutions because your eczema keeps coming back. When you have eczema on the outside, internally your gut is screaming for help.
Western medicine focuses on treating the superficial symptoms without addressing the root cause of the problem. Too many people on FB and Reddit are focused on what topicals and creams and lotions to use and no one seems to be talking about diet or inflammation inside the body. That’s why I made this course. My goal is to help one person a day achieve healthier skin.
Remember guys: FOOD IS MEDICINE so let’s dive into the courses and start healing!
When’s the last time your doctor asked you about your diet? For me, I was NEVER asked about what I was eating. NOT ONCE – which is crazy because the root cause of eczema is inflammation from your diet (90% of cases) or inflammation from something you’re touching (10% of cases). What happens is when you eat a trigger food, it releases a bunch of inflammatory chemicals like cytokines, histamines, prostaglandins, and leukotrienes which are called Mediators and your immune system interprets this food as an antigen or a foreign invader. In response, it produces antibodies to fight off these antigens.
In this section, I’m going to talk about current eczema drugs and how they work scientifically. The most common drug is your typical steroid cream. They range in potency from class 1 which is super potent to class 7 which is least potent. I’ve been prescribed this Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream so many freaking times over my life that it’s lost all effectiveness on my skin. It works by suppressing the inflammatory chemicals that I talked about in the last section like cytokines, prostaglandins, and leukotrienes that’s produced by your immune system overreacting to a trigger food that you ate. Your immune system thinks that the junk food you ate is an antigen and that it should do everything it can to fight it off.
In this section, I’m going to explain why food is the ULTIMATE medicine. You know by now that you should avoid inflammatory foods, but you’re asking yourself which exact foods to eat.
I’m so tired of seeing people guess on their diet and try all sorts of elimination diets – vegan, vegetarian, Mediterranean, the carnivore diet – these are all meaningless to me. There is NO one diet fits all plan. I really want people to stop guessing and start understanding their own specific bodies by getting tested for food sensitivities. Food sensitivities are really tricky because it can take 3 or 4 days for you to see your eczema symptoms. Everyone’s immune system reacts differently to certain foods.
In this section, I’m going to talk about inflammatory foods to avoid. You really have to be disciplined and look at every ingredient in the foods you eat. Oftentimes, there are hidden ingredients including wheat, eggs, and soy that might be your trigger food. This section is tough for most people because tasty food affects our moods and gives us that short-term happiness we crave. Sugar cravings are a real problem because your body has become dependent on the dopamine release that makes you feel good. Food plays a huge role in our social lives as well. You go to a party and everyone’s eating junk food, so you tend to eat what everyone else’s eating…or there’s a birthday party at your office or in your class and everyone’s eating cake. There’s this unspoken pressure to fit in with the crowd and eat whatever is served. Unfortunately, our bodies WILL overreact to these trigger foods.
In this section, I’m going to talk about the anti-inflammatory foods you should consider adding to your diet. Even though I’m going to list healthy foods, your specific diet should be designed with your food sensitivities in mind. I could name a bunch of vegetables but there’s a chance you could be sensitive to salicylates which are contained in many fruits and vegetables and so the carnivore diet might be the right fit for you. Remember, the secret is to not play the guessing game and try all sorts of elimination diets – vegan, vegetarian, Mediterranean, the carnivore diet – these are all meaningless to me. There is NO one diet fits all plan. Your diet is all about understanding your own specific body to determine which foods are easily digested without making your immune system overreact.
Apple cider vinegar has a pH of 2 to 3 so it closely mimics the acidity of your stomach which supports digestion and healthy bowel movements. Apple cider vinegar is made by chopping apples, covering them with water and leaving them at room temperature until the natural sugars ferment and form ethanol. Bacteria then convert this alcohol into acetic acid. This acetic acid has anti-glycemic properties that stabilizes your blood sugar levels. One study found that adding apple cider vinegar to a meal reduced glucose and insulin levels and increased satiety or feeling of fullness for up to two hours.
All right let’s talk about the supplements you should consider adding to your diet. I want to emphasize that supplements should not replace real nutritious food, but they can definitely help you if you’re lacking certain nutrients. I take supplements that specifically helps with my skin because that’s what I struggle with the most.
As you know by now, the quality of your gut is the foundation for your physical health which directly affects your mental health and vice versa. The gut microbiome is one of the most important topics in health and yet few people are talking about it partly because the science is relatively new. Based on Google trends, no one was searching it before 2010. Interest has been steadily rising for the past 10 years. So, you’re asking what is a microbiome? It’s all of the microorganisms that live in and on our bodies.
Your skin microbiome is just as important as your gut microbiome and unfortunately so many people are putting topicals and soaps and cleansers and fragrances that are disrupting the skin microbiome and they don’t even know it! They’ll blindly put the newest creams on their faces without looking at the ingredients or doing a patch testing to see if they have a reaction to it. Most people are sold on the good marketing pitches and advertisements. My overall message for you is that you have to be hyperaware of the things you put in your mouth and on your skin.
Researchers found that fasting reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-1a and I could see it on my skin! The redness on my skin had subsided and the itchiness was much less. I had smoother skin because the inflammation had drastically decreased. What was left was slight hyperpigmentation that will just fade away with time. I had smaller and tighter pores on my face. Studies found that fasting reduces sebum production by 40% which can help tighten pores and heal acne. Studies also found that fasting helps heal eczema.
Studies show saunas are great at reducing inflammation. Researchers found that more sauna use means less c-reactive proteins which is a leading blood marker of systemic inflammation. Studies also found that HGH increased by over 140% in the sauna, which is amazing for building muscle mass, increasing bone density, improving your skin, and enhancing your immunity. If you want to fight the Coronavirus, hit up a sauna to boost your white blood cells, lymphocytes, neutrophils, basophils, leukocytes, and monocytes which all help your immune system fight off diseases. Saunas are amazing for your skin because research found that it reduces sebum levels by 25% which is great for healing acne.
