Gary VandenBergh was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1983. He has managed his diabetes successfully with his medical team and has an acute awareness of diet, exercise, medication and how it all impacts his blood sugar. Throughout his journey with type 1 diabetes Gary noticed that there was very little in the way of tips, hints and guidance coming from other people who live with diabetes. Most input and assistance comes directly from medical professionals. While an excellent medical team is essential to good diabetes management, the medical team often cannot offer the daily or minute-to-minute solutions that people with diabetes need to successfully navigate the multiple difficulties that arise every day in a life with diabetes.
Diabetes is a 24/7/365 condition that is specific to each person with diabetes. What works for one may not work for another. Gary takes this concept and weaves it together with professional medical advice to create a course that speaks to the idea of becoming mindful of the condition and creating behaviors that can help in good diabetes management.
Professionally, Gary is a Producer/Editor in the television industry. Currently working at NBC News Productions, Gary has over 25 years of experience in Network, Corporate, Sales and Marketing television projects.
