    Case study: FestMan Stores

    FestMan stores has hired you as a Freelance Data Analyst to help them review their data and provide insights that would be valuable to the CFO and CMO of the business. The business has been performing well and the management wants to get insights into their 2014 and 2013 performance.

    The business questions

    Through internal brainstorming, the CFO has confirmed that they needed answers to the following questions:

    • What is the company's performance in 2014 compared to 2013?

    • Which countries drove the orders and profit margins of the company in the two years period?

    • What was the trend in the company's sales over the two years period?

    • Which segments were profitable?

    • What were the top 3 products of the company in terms of sales?

    • What is the profitability of the products in the different operational segments?

    To answer these questions, the company has provided you with their two years financial data for 2013 and 2014.

    1. You are required to load the data in Microsoft Power BI and analyze it to answer these questions.

    2. You are also required to design an interactive report with the insights you will discover from your analysis.

    3. Finally, you are to explore the options in Power BI for sharing the report with your stakeholders. All the best.

    Here is your task

    In this task, you will be required to:

    • Connect and import the dataset into Power BI. There are two ways you can do this. You can download the data in the next section and import it into Power BI. You can also connect to the data directly in Power BI using the Try sample dataset option in Power BI.


    • Clean and transform the data in Power Query addressing any data cleaning issues you identify.

    • Then load the data into Power BI.
