Description

Grief is the experience of coping with loss.  Most of us think of grief as happening in the painful period following the death of a loved one.  But, grief can accompany any even that disrupts or challenge our sense of normalcy or ourselves.  This includes diagnosis of child disease.  This course aims to provide a supportive and informative platform for individuals to explore and process their grief experiences.  We will delve into understanding the natural emotional and psychological responses to loss, encompassing various stages and potential challenges.  Participants will learn coping mechanisms, communication strategies and resources to navigate the grieving process.

Students will explore different types of grief, including complicated grief and disenfranchised grief along with the common stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance) and their potential variations.  The course will help individuals develop effective communication skill for navigating conversations with loved ones, expressing their feelings, being empathetic, understanding the grief process and setting boundaries.

Students will also learn healthy ways to manage emotions, including self compassion, mindfulness practices and seeking support from trusted individuals or professional therapists.

The goal of this course is to empower individuals to embrace the healing journey, foster resilience, and build a stronger sense of self and well-being in the face of diagnose and loss.
