Mastering Graphs for Linear Equations: Part 2
What you'll learn
- How to represent linear relationships both algebraically and graphically.
- The methods for converting temperatures between Celsius and Fahrenheit, including drawing their corresponding graphs.
- How to formulate and solve linear equations from various real-world scenarios.
- Skills to interpret graphs and identify the linear equation they represent.
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of Algebra and Geometric concepts
Description
In this course, we will explore how linear equations can be used to model and solve real-life problems. We will begin by looking at the relationship between Fahrenheit and Celsius temperatures. You will learn how to draw the graph of the linear equation that converts temperature from Fahrenheit to Celsius and vice versa. We will also discuss how to convert temperatures using formulas, such as converting 0°C to Fahrenheit and 0°F to Celsius. We will explore whether there exists a temperature that is numerically the same in both Fahrenheit and Celsius, and how to find it using algebra.
Next, we will examine various real-world situations and represent them using linear equations. For example, we will look at how to write and graph an equation when two students contribute a certain amount to a relief fund. We will also explore a situation involving a father and daughter’s age — where seven years ago, the father's age was seven times the daughter’s, and three years from now, it will be three times — and learn how to represent and graph it algebraically.
We will further analyze cost-related situations such as buying apples and grapes or cricket bats and balls, and see how to express these using systems of equations and graph them. Finally, we will learn how to match a given graph to its corresponding linear equation from a set of options.
