The future of UX/UI design and AI is very confusing at times. We see new tools and tech coming out every single week, with all different kinds of opinions on social media that follow. Here are resources from two prominent companies - Google UX Team and Amazon Design, that can help clarify some of these doubts and confusions about building with AI.
Let's walk through Google Stitch and understand what each button and control does, so that you can smoothly use the tool while learning through the course.
Google's AI Studio is a complete all-in-one tool to generate images, video, speech/music, and, for our purposes, code! Don't worry, even someone without any coding knowledge can easily navigate and use Google AI Studio to develop their app. This walkthrough will be very useful during our course.
Writing basic prompts will always give you inconsistent results from AI tools, often leading to major issues in your project. This "recipe" or instructions file will be a great starting point for any design/non-design project where AI is involved.
You'll be able to give the AI crucial information:
Context of your requirements and project.
Design direction you'd want the AI to take.
Functionality and features you want the AI tool to include in your project.
The do's and don'ts to guide the tool and help it make fewer mistakes.
The biggest mistake designers make while using AI design tools, is that they want to jump to the final designs in one go. Instead, we're taking a more realistic approach with wireframes and layouts being built first. Only once you're satisfied with the result, content, layouts, and page structure, should you move to the next step. We'll focus only on the basis with this one.
Whether you have a current brand style-guide or want to use an existing design system like Material Design, you can do a lot and customise your designs with Google Stitch.
Most AI tools, including Google Stitch, are built to do a lot of guesswork and often don't produce the exact results you're looking for. For this, there are plenty of editing features and ways you can make changes quickly, without having to go through the entire AI workflow again.
When our design is complete, we will jump from Google Stitch to AI Studio with a seamless process. Here, we'll get to make a tangible product, something we can launch or send to developers to move the production process further.
Our beautiful designs are useless without actual functionality that makes our MVP come to life and provide real data without too much work. Let's connect our app to other apps and services to make it useful!
AI design workflows are taking over traditional practices to speed up the design process, removing the limitations designers had and turning us all into builders.
