But in reality, getting a game in the hands of consumers is often times a very long and tedious journey, that can take years from start to finish. Now a days, video games combine all the greatest elements of art & entertainment, and place them in an interactive medium that can draw the player in & create a unique experience.
So how do they do it, how are games really made?
Whether your looking to create a small indie game, a mobile game, or work with a large AAA game studio, the basic sequence of creating a game will remain pretty much the same, & falls into three stages;

Production Phase
Production is the main & longest stage of game development, at which point the game is actually developed. In a professional environment, this is the phase were new staff & team members are hired for the various roles & new positions. The production phase is focused on content, asset, & code creation, as well as implementing content, & completing the various tasks needed in a games development.
The game production phase can best be summed up into these 5 categories:

Beta
Gold.

Contrary to popular belief, the game development process doesn’t end when the game is complete & released. Two of the most important aspects of post production are the:

Closing kit
Game production is not a science, each game you work on will present new challenges. However, common elements exist in all game development, so learning from and anticipating these challenges is what makes good game developers, designers, & producers.
