Project and change management are skills that help us to manage projects and implement change within our organisation and anyone can learn, use and develop over time.

Overall, the course should take just over an hour an hour and will give an introduction to project management and will cover the following topics:

· What is Project Management

· What is a project?

· Different Types of Projects

· Project Knowledge and skills


By the end of the course, you should be able to:

· Describe what project management is and why it is important

· Distinguish the difference between the everyday running of the organisation (business as usual) versus projects and change

· Identify project management skills to support your personal development

· Identify different project management techniques and when you might use them

· Explain the link between success and using project and change management


I  am a Programme Manager with 20 years’ experience in Global Health implementing nurse education, HIV testing and treatment programmes and implementation of health National Strategic Plans in resource constrained countries.

I am experienced in managing projects (valued in excess of US$20million) within both the UK, Africa, SE Asia and Caribbean regions with Ministries of Health, international donors and NGO sectors.


I trust this introduction will give you a great taster for what is achievable in project management and provide you with ideas to further develop your skills as a project manager.

· Nurse education project in India over 5 sites with 200 students implemented remotely.

· Euro 18 million programme of HIV testing and screening for TB and Non-Communicable Disease that contracted with 30 Civil Society organisations.

· Programme Management on an 8 year £25 million (approx.), 16 staff programme of work in Prevention, Treatment, Advocacy and M+E.

· International Health Regulations - Project management of 2 cycles of the UNGASS on HIV & AIDS in the Caribbean and development of the Latin America and Caribbean Consolidated report on population and development for the ICPD 2014 conference on Human Rights
