Description

This course is aimed at New Zealand Level 3 Physics students, and intends to get them started studying for scholarship physics. It has 10 lessons, and each lesson covers a new idea, provides examples and scaffolding and then sets the students a task to practice themselves. Over the first few lessons, students are scaffolded from answering NCEA level physics questions, all the way to answering scholarship level questions. By the end of the course, students will have all the knowledge to finish preparing for this scholarship exam independently.

Whilst this is aimed at students, teachers who are looking for inspiration may want to use the course materials to make their own 1 term unit (10 weekly lessons), to teach their own scholarship students. However, it need not be taught over 1 term; an independent student, might get through all the lessons on their own in a few days.

The 10 lessons are:

  1. Introduction

  2. Scholarship style questions

  3. The curriculum

  4. Answering your first scholarship question

  5. Dimensional Analysis

  6. Dealing with new physics concepts

  7. Math skills

  8. Coordinate systems and components

  9. Explanation Questions

  10. Summary
