Welcome to the course, How to Get an Internship! This course is great for college students who are struggling to learn what they need to know about resume writing, cover letter writing, LinkedIn page optimizations, and interview tips to get an internship.
My name is Sarah. I had eight internships when I was a college student, and it helped me easily launch my career after college. For the past six years I have been a mentor to college students to help them edit their resumes, write a compelling cover letter, and interview with confidence, so they can get internships, expand their resumes, and launch their careers.
Internships have become a necessity for obtaining a job after college. In this course, I talk to you like one of the students I'm mentoring - I'll give it to you straight about what you need to know to get an internship. I'll also hype you up because I know a little encouragement goes a long way! I know you're a busy student, so I focus on what is most important and give you my honest, experience-backed opinions in this extensive internship prep course!
Resume writing doesn't need to be complicated. Use this template and write your resume with ease.
Get the basics on what you need to know to write a resume the right way. Even if you're applying for an internship without experience, you’ll learn how to highlight your strengths, skills, and potential in a way that makes you stand out. Whether you're part of a school internship program or searching independently, this is your guide to creating a resume that works.
What you'll learn:
How to get an internship using a professional, polished resume
The exact structure and format to follow using a ready-made resume template
What to include (and what to avoid) when writing your resume for an internship
Remember: Your experience section is the most important part of your resume. Fill this section out as much as you can, with as many relevant bullet points as you can, using strong action verbs for each bullet point. Quantify wherever possible, and leave as little white space as possible. Shrink the font and expand the margins (within reason) to fit more in on one page!
In this hands-on lecture, we walk through a real-world example of how to tailor a student's resume for an internship. You’ll follow along as we review and point out what's great about Jane Smith’s resume and how she can also edit it depending on her experience, making live edits and applying key resume writing strategies every step of the way.
This is the perfect session if you’ve been asking yourself how to write a resume for an internship and want a clear, practical example to guide you. Whether you're working with a resume template or building your resume from scratch, this walkthrough will help you apply best practices in real time.
Don't have a lot of experience? You'll learn how you can still have an impressive resume with little to no job experience and even get some tips for getting more experience to add to your resume.
Remember: While we use a resume template, Jame can still make changes to her resume in several ways. It's important that she prioritizes her experience (adding more bullet points to expand on it as she's able to) and shortens her section on additional skills to focus on providing unique skills.
When you're applying for an internship, simply submitting your resume isn’t enough. In this lecture, you’ll learn how to get an internship by going the extra mile—finding the hiring manager on LinkedIn and making a strong, professional first impression.
We’ll walk you through step-by-step how to identify the right person to contact and exactly what to say in your message to stand out and bump your resume to the top of the pile. This strategy is especially powerful if you're a student applying for an internship without experience (or with limited experience) and want to do everything you can to stand out from the crowd.
In this lecture, you’ll learn how to find the right type of internship you're looking for and then customize your resume to match each specific internship listing.
We’ll start by exploring where and how to search for internship programs, even if you’re just starting out or looking for an internship without experience. Then, we’ll dive into how to edit and tailor your resume so it speaks directly to what each employer is looking for in that position.
I focus on finding internships on LinkedIn since I believe it's an excellent place to begin and a place where many employers advertise their internship programs. It's also great to see how recently an employer posted about an internship opportunity. Being among the first few people to apply for an internship can give you a huge leg up!
In this lecture, you'll learn how to set up your LinkedIn profile from scratch (or improve what you already have) so that it aligns with your internship goals. Whether you're applying through a formal internship program or reaching out to companies directly, having a polished LinkedIn profile is essential to establishing yourself as a professional in the workplace.
Since you'll be reaching out to the hiring manager via LinkedIn, you'll want to make sure your LinkedIn profile is complete and highlights your impressive experience!
Writing a cover letter doesn’t have to be intimidating. In this course, you’ll learn exactly how to write a professional, personalized cover letter for an internship—even if you have little or no experience. In this hands-on lecture, we’ll walk through a real-world cover letter example—editing it live to show you exactly how to improve and personalize your letter for a specific internship. Whether you're just starting out or have already written a draft, this session will show you what works, what doesn't, and why.
You'll see the entire process of writing a cover letter in action, including how to format your letter, what to include in each paragraph, and how to tailor your message to the role and company.
